Did you notice these moments in Kung Fu Panda? When Shifu and Tai Lung first saw the Dragon Scroll, they both had the same reaction, like father and son. Tai Lung is bound in chains shaped like a tortoise shell, which hints at Oogway, who was the one to defeat him. In the movie, you can see Tai Lung breaking Shifu's hip while trying to get the Dragon Scroll. Later, when Shifu is training Tigress, you can notice that he limps.
