In #Singapore, the fate of two Malaysian men on death row has sparked local mobilisation and attracted international attention. On April 25th, Nagaenthran Dharmalingam was hanged. With an IQ of 69, which is recognized as a disability, his execution could amount to a breach of international law. The next day, 36-year-old Datchinamurthy Kataiah won a last minute reprieve from Singapore's top court, thereby suspending his #execution. We talk to journalist and anti-death penalty activist Kirsten Han.

Capital punishment in Singapore isn't going to be abolished during my lifetime. But they should at least abolish mandatory death sentences. All death sentences should be passed at the judge's discretion. (There are no juries in Singapore.)

Nagaenthran Dharmalingam is my fellow country men but his lawyer never show the IQ score to validated; they merely mention the score; I can't find the mental score anywhere and he claim he was harrassed; he could have told the cops/immigrant officers...

Kirsten Han must have zero family member who abused drugs; how the mental toll to families with drug abuser family member which will effect everyone surrounding the drug abuser; even reformed drug abusers also say the DEATH PENALTY is a deterrent as if there is only LIFE IMPRISONMENT (imagine the amount of DRUGS that will travel into SG?) - putting LIFE IMPRISONMENT is the stupidest method which will double the people who will try to smuggle drugs into SG, .. Risk vs Rewards yo!
