This is probably the best course for beginners to programming. Looking back to 3 years back when I did this course, it laid some solid foundations on which I could work on later. Strongly recommend anyone who's starting out to give it a shot.

its so true that programming is fun. When i was young I never really considered learning. I had the impression it would be boring. Now I wish i started learning 10 years ago. Its one of the few things that lets you create something for yourself (a useful program) instead of just studying various useless topics in school that will only maybe be usefull 10 years later when you get a job.

I worked through the lectures and problem sets of the 2011 version of this course.
For people who have never programmed before it is very challenging but also very rewarding to get a problem set right. I wish all 2013 participants good luck and the stamina to complete the course. If you have questions, there is an Open Study group for this course. Have fun!

Disappointing that this course is running, but registration is closed. It's a free class, why close it down? I know there's a 2011 version available that I'll have to settle with, but it's very sad that it's closed.

I've finished the Python lectures at HarvardX. They were great. HOWEVER, I'm wasting a lot of time working on the Problem Sets. I do know the stuff, but the CHECK50 tester tests for criteria that were never mentioned in the Problem Sets. Even then I have finished and passed 31 of the 41 exercises, losing a lot of time second guessing what the grading program wants. DOES THIS COURSE USE CHECK50 to test?
