How to Dye Hair at Home (Coloring Tips & Tricks)

Hey guys, in this hair dye tutorial, I will show you how to color your hair at home using drugstore box dye kits. These kits are actually very easy to use and I'll also share some tips and tricks for brunettes. ♥

The hair dye color I used: L'Oreal Casting Creme 503 Golden Chocolate

This video will cover the following:
1. How to prepare before coloring.
2. Tools you need before, during, and after coloring.
3. How to apply haircolor step-by-step.
4. Tips to avoid haircolor disaster.
5. How to choose your color.

My hair coloring tips work best for dark hair or brunettes like myself. When choosing a hair color, go with two shades lighter or darker than your current hair color. At-home hair dye is perfect if you're doing a single process or one color. If you want to add highlights, ombres, or go from black to blonde. Seek a professional hair color technician. I don't want to be held responsible for any mishaps. lol

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll address it in my future root touch-up video where I show you how to go from back hair to brown hair. I just need my hair to grow out a bit more for that video.

Wow. I've been looking up videos because my wife wants me to dye her hair and I have to say that your video is the easiest wait to do it. Thank you. I was worried she'd end up looking like a purple minion.

Cheers.

I always get my hair dyed at home, but I've never tried sectioning my hair into smaller sections like you! I think sectioning hair into four smaller sections to make it easy to work with is the greatest tip in this video :) And I think using the mixing bowl and brush also makes the whole process easier.

Do not start at the hairline! If you have virgin hair start at the bottoms and leave about 1-2 inches of roots, then put dye on the roots. So basically leave the dye on roots for half the time compared to the rest. You will get bright roots if you don't!

i just did my wife's hair. Still waiting for the 30 min to see the result. Its so easy i cant believe how easy that was. Ive tried coloring her hair before, and those were not great. Right now im not sure if your tutorial was really really helpful, or maybe i completely messed her hair up, because of how easy that whole process was. I mean it didnt take time at all. compared to my previous attempt on coloring her hair. I hope this works. Thanks a lot for the tips and techniques. I get to spend quality time with my wife without having panic attack

Hi Née, I just wanted to thank you so much for your video! I faced the maiden voyage of dying my hair last night (to cover up the white hairs I now have 😏) and your tutorial was a huge blessing! You explain everything so well- step by step. The only tip I would add is to put on a long sleeved smock or bottom up shirt. Getting black hair dye on my arms was not good. Lol!

I went through so many tutorials and yours is hands down the best available- thank you!!! 🙋🏻‍♀️

I'm a total advocate for home-kit dyeing when you're not making a dramatic change! I have naturally dark brown hair and I find it doesn't suit me because of my skin tone, so I've been dyeing it a dark red every six months or so (or just whenever I need a bit more red again) for the past three years and it works a treat! It comes out quite bright for the first week or so, but after I wash it a couple of times it fades to a lovely reddy-brown! I have, however, tried to do my own ombre in the past and it has NOT worked in my favour, so I feel like unless you're confident in your own skills, go to a professional!

My hair is just as long as yours and up until this past year I've had my mom dye my hair so my first experience was a nightmare! I got hair dye all over the place! I didn't section off my hair like you did and now I see that it helps. This will definitely save me from dying everything purple next time.

Great tips! Coloring long hair, especially a dark color can be tricky. That creme looks awesome, and your hair looks great. I'll have to try it next time I color mine.

Great tip, dividing your hair in four parts. I only dye my roots and my hair is a little bit shorter than yours but it is very difficult to dye the roots in your neck when you have all that hanging over it . So this will certainly help. Thanks! Looking forward to new tutorials ! I follow you for soms years now so the oldies I know already.
