"You know how in movie scenes where the characters are in a video chat with each other and they're staring directly and perfectly at the screen? Like, that doesn't happen in real life. Usually people are like staring lower, because their camera is hanging above their head or something like that. Paradoxically, as I was speaking to Vylet, it seemed like she was staring right into my eyes through the camera. It seemed like she was doing it just to make a point when she asked me "why do you write music"? Like I thought she was trying be funny, but she stayed that way for the rest of the call sflhsdj I wanna say it was kinda creepy,, but at the same time, maybe the point did come across. Why DID I write music? It just felt like I was supposed to do it like it was my purpose, my cutie mark would make that more evident right. But still, I never thought about it metacognitively.

Do you think she was actually staring into my eyes? Or do you think she was just staring at the camera to get me to think about this more intensely? I don't really think you've ever had an experience like that yourself huh?"

LYRICS:

The frailty of the storyteller
Lies not in design
When every word is perfect
In your collapse, you wonder “why”

I’ve still got something to teach you
Nothing more and nothing less
The destination is the journey
Still the landing you profess

These waves will nurse your complexion
While the wind still blows you down

Eastward sailing, know the waters more than anyone
When the sirens tear down your voice

Cool mists against your rosy cheeks
And the song you write should carry you home

Beyond a highland, stray with melody
A harbinger, this ocean silver
“I, am the one, ”
He declares

A song can shift the sands of time
A desert of life’s bequest
The stitches your heart still bears
Each story weaves a hope

The weight of
The artist
Falls down
Like an angel

Dance
Against the storm
You can be
Something holy

Don’t anybody stand in my way
Learn to scream and shout
Look at yourself
Look at yourself
Look at yourself

It’s gonna be okay
You’re meant for more than you know
Words trapped behind your mouth
Find you’ll know them on their page

I’ve still got something to teach you
Your life is all you’ve got to make good
You’ll know when the time comes
The music reaps the fruit of your soul

You’ll know when the time comes

I know this sounds really weird, but sometimes i just wanna walk into an empty pitch black room, lay down in the middle of it and just listen to this song for hours

A song so damned epic that Fantano himself live streamed it and then defended it when chat turned sour.

Way to break that barrier Vylet! Looking forward to Fish Whisperers release.

There’s this feeling to your music that’s hard to put a finger on - it’s like it’s weirdly otherworldly and super relatable all at once.

I've been hooked on Vylet's music since Cutiemarks dropped and this is easily going in the playlist, the production on here is gorgeous, the strings add so much atmosphere and the whole instrumental makes me feel like I'm being transported to another dimension away from all my issues, I'm so blown away by this, fish whisperer boutta be the album of the year I stg

Thank you for making these songs, Vylet.
As a lifelong artist who has been going through an absolutely hellish phase of feeling like choosing art was a mistake and not knowing where I'm going to go next, the lyrics and overall vibe of this song hit very close to home.
Your music has been such an inspiration and a comfort to me since I found you via LESBIAN PONIES WITH WEAPONS a few months back, and the entire Fish Whisperer album so far has been like a big warm musical blanket.
I don't know what else to say in this comment other than you've done it again! Every song I hear from you is brilliant even though they are all so very different. Thank you again.

Vylet, this is an actual masterpiece. The feel shifts, the chord colors, the underlying harmonic structures and progressions – I hardly know what to say! Those strings in particular are SO incredibly effective. The trills, all of the articulations and phrasing – I can tell you put a LOT of thought into every motion in those strings, and it REALLY pays off. Like, dang. Every ounce of production supports the message of the lyrics, and I'm incredibly impressed. If I may ask, what string library/ies are you using? Again, seriously, amazing work. Like. Damn.

I need more songs with 2:20 moments. Your melodic song parts are just perfect. I literally replay whole song just for the 2:20 - 3:41 part. Whole track is good. But it's just this part that sells it for me. MOOOREEEE!

Something that was really interesting to me when I was listening was the art. When it first appeared, I saw the two pwnies.
When they started talking about the waves, I noticed the border of the song. Then, I noticed the orange magic spiralling out of the white-haired pwny's horn. It's interesting to think that they were always there and didn't just fade in when I noticed them.

This is at the end of the Starship Ponyville playlist on Spotify, which means Can Opener somehow ties into the story or at the very least exists in the same world.
