I think you hit the nail on the head with the idea that through this meme, we can retreat to a safe, "funny, " and friendly exchange between politicians despite the multipolar and contentious nature of our politics. To me, this meme exudes a very childish ignorance, but I'm glad others feel this way as well.

For me the idea of political enemies being able to be friends and just play simple games together conjures the idea of our common humanity. It makes me wish for better things. It makes me hope that the future could look a little brighter. If not, then it's just a beautiful idea. A true escapist fantasy. I wish political enemies could put it aside and just shit talk each other over some cod or mario party. I think the world would be a better place. One can dream.

Gaming and politics can probably match each other in complexity (in an information-theory sense). But They have wildly different stakes. Virtual stakes with resets and save states encourage liberal experimentation, while real stakes recommend caution, prudence, and a conservative temperament. Politics is played in a hardcore difficulty setting with permadeath. And you inherit the starting state.

Great video. Yes, I'm binging all of them rn. Anyway I think it's also a way of humanising subjects, such as politics, which can seem really distant. For normal guy US President is like a omnipresence that he never actually sees. That's why it's so interesting too see the SCOTUS playing games - it's something WE do.

One aspect that I think was overlooked is the archetypical caricatures the presidents have evolved into being portrayed as. I think in part there is some level of projection especially if you watch enough of them you notice how they all speak in some level of zoomer jargon regardless of who’s making them or what situation they’re in. Essentially a wojak-ification of presidents
