I started as a pop punker, and I evolved into a mix of deathcore, posthardcore, metalcore kid

Started out a emo pop punk kid listing to Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco, My Chemical Romance, Paramore. My middle school friend got me into metalcore like All That Remains and Parkway Drive. Then found post-hardcore in high school and college so everything from Dance Gavin Dance, Emarosa, Hands Like Houses.

My bands are Rites of Spring, Cap'n Jazz, Sunny Day Real Estate, The Get Up Kids, The Early November, Thursday and early Taking Back Sunday and My Chemical Romance. I looked up to the dudes in the 90s-early 00's wearing sweater vests, ironic t-shirts, cuffed jeans, Converse and thick rimmed glasses. It's referred to as prehistoric emo. I'm only 32, but this video makes me feel old.

Hollywood Undead is the band you listen to when at a party and also while you’re in a dark room crying. Weird combination but I love them. HU4L

Tbh, I was kinda a mix of all of these, definitely post hardcore the most tho. And I still am ngl, im 21 and I've added alot more to my mix, but at heart I am still that post hardcore kid with 25 different wrist bands, going all the way up my arm like some chain link armor.

I haven't felt more called out in a minute in a half. Thank you.

Post hard core called me out....Sillybands, neon colors, and the bands were spot on call outs.... Especially Isles and glaciers. I hadn't listened to them since middle school but the memories came flooding back.

I'm 33 and I can say that I LOVED the emo movement as a teen. I miss warped tour and all the shows every month. My bands were Dashboard Confessional, Paramore, Say Anything, Senses Fail, Underoath, Silverstein, The Sophmore Year, MyLoveHateHero, Mayday Parade. I miss the music so much I just still listen to it all.

I’m the awkward mix between post hardcore emo and emotional hardcore emo. I’d wear skinny jeans, converse, and studded belts with band shirts from sunny day real estate, rites of spring, moss icon, or cursive

I’m the perfect blend of metalcore, post hardcore, pop punk and butt rock.

However, if you really think Avenged Sevenfold are the “kings of butt rock” at all then you clearly haven’t listened to them much. They originally took off as a metalcore band, then to speed/thrash, and didn’t really play butt rock till the hail to the king album, and then went in a more experimental route with the stage album. And now we’ve got the insane new stuff!

missed the mid 00s mall screamo era - underoath, taking back sunday, brand new, hawthorne heights, etc . that was hype

For me my Emo days lasted between 2006-2008. Got to see bands like Skylit Drive, Escape the Fate, Chiodos, Alesana, August Burns Red, Silverstein in their prime 🙌

I’m 30 and I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this 😂 I had at least one friend from every category. I listened to a lot of bands from different categories but fit mostly in the post hardcore group but was called scene because I was a girl with a scene haircut. I just didn’t do the scene music and the colorful clothes.
Now I’m a married mom of three and earning my masters degree to become a therapist 😆 still listen to metal though!

As a former nevershoutnever kid that also leaned a bit to the pop punk I feel so called out right now. I love midwest emo like Modern Baseball and American Football these days (though also enjoy folky stuff like NMH), met my husband on a weird obscure website + we were long distance for years, and work in an IT-aligned support job. Nice job.

My category wasn't included - I still am a melodic hardcore kid at heart. Prophets was the album that made me want to learn all those guitar riffs and of course anything Adam D produced in the early 2000s was just right for me. Nothing since then even comes close.
I've moved to both heavier stuff and popier stuff, I really like Bilmuri and No Pressure, but also bands I can't put a label on like Holding Absence or Broadside.

As a post-hardcore dude myself, id say that those bands and fashion styles were the scene kids. Bands like Circa, Thursday, At the Drive in, the Sleeping are more on target. But I guess that even the post-hardcore stuff was separated between the shit with flashy shirts and makeup for kids and the other shit I was on.
