Since I was born in 1951 I have seen a lot of computer development over my lifetime. I have also seen and used a number of computer operating systems. One big trend is as computers became more powerful, with more memory, more cpu cores, more storage, and faster speed, the computer operating systems have increased and multiplied in size dramatically. The first computer I owned was a Heathkit H89 with a Z80 processor and 64k of memory. There were two operating systems that could be used on this computer. One was Heath Disk Operating System HDOS and CP/M Control Program Microcomputer. These two operating systems used around 8k to 16k of memory. Today I am using an Apple Mac Studio computer with 32 gb of memory and the Mac OS has 1.82 Gb of wired memory. That is a gigantic change over the years.
