Why did HTC smartphones go from popular to obscure?

HTC experienced one of the tech world's biggest downfalls in the last 6-7 years, barely making the news anymore, besides the occasional abysmal financial report. We take a look at how it got where it is now.

They abandoned the front facing speakers and headphone jack, so they chucked their USP as the sound quality on the DAC was superb.

The reason is extremely simple :
They stopped making phones for middle class or poor guys. That's it. Absolutely no other reason.
When it comes to design language, they always evolved and provided great aesthetics but when it came to camera department, they could never do better than rivals and again with that price tag, they were doomed to be obscured.

They tried to ignore the potential buyers and potential market i.e. Asians.

HTC's worst enemy are its execs that have no concept of realities of the smartphone market and how HTC is currently fitting into this market.

I miss my HTC One. That was my favorite phone. Great speakers great phone. Camera could of been better but the camera on a phone isn't the deal breaker for me. I wish they would just do what they did back then, just make a goods phone. Who cares what samsung is doing, be HTC again. I'm sad now that I watched this video.

I too really liked HTC phones. I used the HTC 10 for three years. But with no marketing & carrier support it appears their doomed. Google took away the cream of the crop. One of our greatest OEM'S reduced to rubble. This is a very sad story! What ever happened to the update to the HTC11? It's only been 18months, yikes!

When htc stopped having phones on every carrier and then removed the headphone jack, they lost me. Loved the phones they made. Had the Touch pro, Touch pro2, HTC Evo 3D, Evo 4G, and HTC One M7

I still have the HTC one and the only thing was a minor malfunction with the camera when using it indoors in low light which gave a pink screen, but is fine outdoors. I still use it on the net, and got a Sony experia which is a nice phone I have been using for years now with no problems.

I might go for an iPhone next time but the only thing there is I prefer the android format so something to consider when the time comes as to whether I'll go with the IOS format.

I loved the HTC one M7. I had a red one and it was awesome to have such a premium phone at the time with good audio.

i just can’t understand people why do they not choosing an htc phone. I know htc has lot of fault especially about marketing but the quality of their phone is just really perfect and the sense UI is just way batter than crappy samsung ui. I hope they will come back to the race but first thing that they have to do is marketing and keep the price lower.
