This is Leibniz's response to the argument that God cannot exist if there is evil. He argues that evil has some place in the universe in order to make the universe maximally good (optimal), because God could only make a universe that is good all things considered.
Objection 1: It seems like God could've made a better world, with less evil. This is not the best possible world.
Objection 2: It seems like God could've made a world without any evil. This is not the best possible world.
