I'd say the dark/light wallpaper is personal preference. I personally like dark theme + dark wallpaper. Dont want to accidentally blind myself with bright light after closing a dark themed application. 10:09

I've been using Linux since 2004-2005 and I love ZorinOS. Its not just for Windows users, its for ppl who actually want their Linux distro to work out of the box without having to tinker with it for weeks just to get simple things to work. I've come full circle. I started with redhat, went to Ubuntu and later Mint. Found myself fiddling with Arch for years. These days I love distros like Zorin that just work out of the box.

I really enjoy how Zorin Os can be used with touch screens. I installed it on my old Lenovo Ideapad Miix and it works very straightforward.

Zorin and Mint are both nice for beginners moving over form Windows. Zorin 17 has the advantage of being shipped with Wayland by default since it uses a heavily customized version of Gnome instead of Cinnamon. On Mint, Wayland is currently an "experimental" feature.

I think the Zorin layout is actually a better option for Gnome than the default layout. As an ex Windows user myself I like to have a start menu that is easy to navigate. I am using Gnome myself but I have installed the Arc Menu which gives it a Cinnamon style menu that new users would be more used to. Gnome used to have this menu until they changed it in Gnome 3 but I think Gnome should offer users a choice of menu. Which could be the default Gnome or a menu like Zorin. KDE offers several style menus for their desktops so I don't see why Gnome can't. I have tried Zorin out in live mode and I would be happy to have it on my desktop. Not sure if you can disable the Snaps or Flataks though.

I once installed this for an elderly client that was tired of "Hackers" on their windows machine. He adapted well and appreciated that I made his computer "faster, and cleaner."

Dark mode is primarily intended for using your computer in dark environments, at night, etc. it's not intended to be only a stylistic choice as you seem to think. Having a light background at night to burn your eyes after the computer wakes up is regarded (drop the g).

LibreOffice is configured in Tabbed layout, which mimics MS office. Makes sense for a distro aimed at windows users, but it's a hassle to change the layout

Edit: changed "Ribbon" to "Tabbed" since that's what it's actually called, thanks terrydaktyllus1320 for telling me I'm wrong

I use dark themes and I want everything to be dark so why use a light wallpaper thus no making it dark?
Right now my wallpaper is just a black screen

I liked it so much, I paid for the upgrade from 16 (which I also paid for).

Just a small correction DT, WINE is not an emulation layer, its name itself stands for "Wine is not an emulator". Instead, it is a PE to ELF translation layer and re-implementation of Windows APIs on Unix. I specify Unix here because it also exists for FreeBSD and macOS.

Well I generally theme my desktops around my wallpaper utilizing the various colors, as far as defaults go I am in complete agreement with you on the contrast point. I have put zorin on former Windows users laptops to great success and would recommend it, Even if I don't technical use it myself.

Is Zorin getting more frequent updates now? I know they needed a long time to go from Zorin 16 to 17.

9:30 That background would look fantastic with Ubuntu Mate.

Hey DT, thanks for reviewing beginners distros for us noobs.
If a beginner viewer likes this they will recommend it to their disillusioned Windows user friends and therefore spread the Linux love.
