Imagine trying to use words to describe every scene in a film, every note in a song, or every street in your town. Now imagine trying to do it using only the numbers 1 and 0. Every time you use the Internet to watch a movie, listen to music, or check directions, that’s exactly what your device is doing, using the language of binary code. José Américo N L F de Freitas explains how binary works.

Lesson by José Américo N L F de Freitas, animation by Qa'ed Mai.

I'm always blown away by how far we've come and created with just 1s and 0s. Freaking crazy

As an Electrical Engineer, I’ve often wondered about creating a new system beyond binary (-1, 0, and 1) for example. I’ve never seen anybody specifically reference this idea except to say “well, quantum…” so thank you for mentioning “ternary”, even if it’s not super viable. It’s still nice to know my intuition wasn’t too far off.

I've heard this stuff a million times before. I want to hear an explanation on how the computer can go from only having binary to creating the next layer above it.
