Root canals are no fun. Vivek Kumar and Peter Nguyen at the New Jersey Institute of Technology report that they have found a way to use peptide hydrogels to stimulate growth of new blood vessels and dental pulp. They say the new process could help save infected teeth.

These findings were presented at the 256th American Chemical Society National Meeting in Boston, MA.

I emailed the man leading this study. As of Aug 13, 2021 they have completed their canine research and are currently raising funding so that they can begin human trials. They are trying to raise 35 million dollars. Not sure how far along in funding they are, but funding does tend to take a long time, unfortunately. Years and years for most.

I had a root canal myself recently and I would say that this off feeling when taking every breath just sucks. It's like I had my tooth extracted and not at the same time.

I have 2 questions regarding the subject:
1. Will it be possible to also regenerate nerves in tooth to sense again cold, warm and pain like before?
2. Will it be possible to apply this biomaterial also on tooth let's say 5 years after the root canal procedure. This is my guess of how long at least it will take to commercialize this solution if everything goes well.

my root canal didn't hurt. they numbed me but i felt the drill vibrating and i jumped and thought the numbing didn't work. but after that, they numbed me more and started the root canal. i have to go back in a week to finish it.

So is this still a root canal or is the tooth still basically dead? If it's still a salvage job I am still looking forward to research into starting new tooth growth again after they are pulled.

How disgusting they are for using dogs for testing - all in the name of man's vanity. Woe is man! We are meant to care for animals, not cause them suffering and pain. Shameful is mankind!😢
