During the Layne Staley Tribute show at The Showbox in Seattle on August 24, 2018, his mother came up on stage to sing along to Mad Season's "Wake Up."

Man this is sad af. My parents never gave up on me either when i struggled with heroin addiction for 12 years. Layne is my favorite singer of all time and this is a beautiful video. For all of you still struggling just hang in there. I was a homeless, hopeless junkie and thought I would die that way. But after going to rehab for the hundred something time I finally had enough and it stuck. Been clean over 3 years now and have my dream job, beautiful girlfriend and a little princess who is about to turn 1 next weekend. Don't give up n

My son loved AIC...the lyrics to this song were written in one of his many journals. I lost him in November 2019 to an overdose after he had been clean for 9 months. There is nothing quite as profound as losing your child. My son was a living, breathing piece of me that I brought into this world. He was a talented guitar player and song writer. I feel so much love and empathy for Layne's mother. There is a constant emptiness in your heart when you lose a child, no matter what age they were when they died.

i can't imagine how difficult that was for her to do...but at the same time, she was standing where Layne stood for many years...from that stage he received strength from all his adoring fans...that exchange of energy from the band and the crowd. I'm she felt it too as she stared into the eyes of so many fans that absolutely loved her son. God bless them both and all his fans as well.
