I got in hot water once for stating out loud, publicly, that I will not be responsible for my players' character sheets. I'm not in charge of their equipment, their money and treasure, looking up their spells, or reminding them of their abilities. I have way too much on my plate with every NPC, friendly or otherwise, location, stray cats they've adopted, etc. I had folks mad at me because that's unfair--I'm supposed to help my players, and what if they have ADHD? Well, joke's on them, I have ADHD, too but I wouldn't dream of making my DM look up my spells for me. Of course if a player doesn't understand a spell, I will look it up *with* them. But please don't ask me what the saving throw against Moonbeam is--tell me. Don't ask me whether it's 128d8 or 129d8 for your fifth-level divine smite vs an undead creature--you're using D&D Beyond, it's under class features. Please.

I get the sense Ginny just got that pink phone, and wants it in as many shots as possible 😂

Speaking as a DM:

This. ALL of this. ALL DAY EVERY DAY THIS. OH MY GOD THIS.

OMG, YES. Two little things you said especially : Keep track of your own concentration (please !), and tell when your turn is over (pretty please).

Not only in combat. The same applies in the roleplay and other encounters.
Put out secret questions where you want to notice something, reminding your DM why you think so. Make sure you keep in character. Keep track of your character's knowledge as well as of your character's habits and temperament. When rolling some contest (Persuasion, Intimidation, Investigation...), keep track of all the modifiers that are not DM's sole knowledge and tell the full outputs.

Again, it's still the same: Your DM (or GM, Storyteller, PJ or however are they called in your system) has always a lot to do quickly. Always.

Running combat as a DM is so extremely stressful if you want to go elaborate with it. Spellcasters are the worst and require so much pre-planning to know exactly what spells they have, what they do, and what the saves are. I had one encounter where my players entered a cave room with a zombie wizard hiding in the stalactites above. When the party spellslinger used feeblemind, I acted like I was so frustrated and like they hacked the encounter, but I was so relieved. Also pro tip: at higher levels track enemy health in units of five and just use tally marks to represent each time your players do five damage, rounding as you like. Much quicker than doing math for eight monsters.

News flash: The GM is not responsible to know your whole spell list, to track your HP, to tell you that you need the 20-sided die to roll for attacks, or to remind you of the magic items you pocketed 12 sessions ago that could safe your ass now.

it’s true!! it’s really difficult to be the DM (specifically with combat for me) and its even harder when players constantly ask you to keep track of their stuff

Would it be too on the nose to send this to all the players in my group?

one of my favorite players is one who reminds everyone how about how their abilities work if they get it wrong, even me as the dm. Like a rules lawyer but fun, like "hey this spell actually works this way not that way" or "actually you can do this as well"

As a player, I do my absolute best to try to remember as much about my characters as I can. I'll often ask, out of game, if there's things I can do to help. I do this in hopes that when I'm the DM (as I have been, and was last night) that the courtesy and kindness is repaid. So far, it has been. My table is the best I could have found.

Short shorts! I love it! Bite-size! The equivalent of chicken nuggets except they're great DnD tips.

Already got my players trained on this. Most of the time, I am flying by the seat of my pants, and they know it. At best I have guidemarkers I want them to reach. I gave up on detailed plans years ago. My players are a little too chaotic, and there is a lot of parity in intellect with the folks you generally hang out with, and D&D is no exception. It is rare to completely outsmart 5-6 other people who are peers. Also, I am not telling them a story. We are creating a story together. They have as much agency as I do. So, in that perspective, it makes sense that they also take some responsiblity for their own characters.

The number of times I have had this conversation is ridiculous:

Me: what's your spell save DC?

Player: "Uh...."
