When we moved, the husband had a gym membership to a large gym corporation which had a gym in our new town, but when he became genuinely too busy to use it, we couldn't cancel over the phone or by going to the in town gym. We had to physically go back to the original location to cancel the membership. I felt this one, boys.

Germany recently got a new law forcing these kinds of memberships to choose:

Either renew automatically but then it can be cancelled monthly with a weeks notice OR don't renew automatically, requiring written consent to renew the subscription by the original amount of time.
