In this video, we explain how to install the Victron Energy SmartShunt IP65: an all-in-one battery monitor, only without a display. Your phone acts as a display. The SmartShunt connects via Bluetooth to the VictronConnect app on your phone (or tablet). You can conveniently read out all monitored battery parameters, like state of charge, time to go, historical information and much more.

We show in this video where and how to connect the SmartShunt, what you can do with the SmartShunt and how to configure it.

I'm going to build my own ESS over the next couple of weeks and I'm absolutely blown away by Victron's ecosystem. It may cost more than some other brands, but everything just screams QUALITY! 🤩

Is a fuse not recommended between the shunt and battery negative? What about the sum of all load/charge currents exceeding the cable or shunt rating?

Hi, great video, I have one of these shunts - I also have a Redarc dcdc charger. My question is, the charger will not work unless I provide an additional ground earth in addition to running its earth to the shunt, why would this be?

Feels weird not to have Jono's voice here. But a welcome change nonetheless.

My system is 24V but actually has two 12V batteries wired in series. Can I still use the Smart Shunt, as long as I make sure I install it in between the 'second' battery and the load/system? I will put positive on the 'second' battery (closest to load/system) as well.

In case, I have got a battery with BMS and this one is connected to the inverter via VE.Can protocol, do I need this shunt to determine the SOC of the battery or not?

Can the Smart Shunt connect to say a Victron Lynx Distributor or does it need to be connected to a Lynx Shunt? Victron Connect is gamechanger being able to have all Victron devices communicating with each other and have it displayed onto a tablet.

So, for the starter battery with negative terminal to chassis ground the load minus should also just be connected to chassis ground?

i purchased the exact smartshunt, I have a question on what will be the correct battery settings. I am connecting to a 36 volt 100 ah battery. For battery capacity should I use 100 AH or 300AH. Also I have a second AGM battery is it possible to connect both of my batteries to the Smartshunt. I am using the Victron Smart Shunt - 6.5V-70V, 500 amp

How long can the SmartShunt save the logs for later retrieval if I'm using the phone app only every once in a while to check on it?

Will this device have any effect on my smart charger? Also, I leave my boat for six month periods, if you disconnect positive lead to battery, does that result in zero amp draw? Don’t want dead battery when I return.

Hi, I just tidied up the wiring in my engine bay and shortened the red AUX Smartshunt wire to about 200mm - now the starter battery voltage reads about 0.33v although the battery is fully charged. Is the length of the red wire critical for accurate readings, or could it be the new ferrule I fitted not making proper contact? Thanks.

Hello! What happens if i do not connect the starter (main) Battery of the Load Side of the Shunt, instead of this i connect to The battery side, cause I got two batterys in parallel (main battery engine bay and second battery on the trunk) Both work for the car, winch, lights, etc. Both are charged in parallel by the alternator. I just only want to know information or status when my car is off, and the freezers and camping lights or inverter are running (engine off, car stoped). I got incorrect capacity measurements? Or it can work normally. Thank for the help in advance

Glad I discovered this fancy little doohickey.

is the shunt needed? im asking because every multiplus has its own battery monitor that is shown in vrm and in VE Configure app.

Why two devices that measure the SoC?

Help: I had the negative cable from my solar charger connected to the negative of the battery. The shunt read the power/watts correctly but not the charged energy. I realized that I needed to connect it after the shunt. when I made the switch and moved all negative cables after the shunt. Now when I put a 20watt load on the system the shunt reads -31 watts & -2.27A. I have 2 12.8 120ah LifePo4 batteries in parallel. any help would be appreciated.

Great video that i looked at before purchasing my Smartshunt. But there are a detail disturbing me and that is putting the positive ringlug (from the smartshunt) with the wrong hole size for the bolt between the battery post and the negative ringlug, this is degrading the contact to the negative battery post.

We have 2 48v (100x4 Lifpo4s x2) battery banks. Both lead to our MultiPLus-II 48/3000... via a common busbar. Can we use the auxiliary wire to monitor the second battery bank?
