He tried making a Burial track but just made a Drake beat.

burial's style is like a butterfly. the tighter you try to hold it in your hands the faster it crumbles and disintegrates. you can pull out individual elements of it, copy his vocal manipulations like thousands have over the past decade, or take his crackle etc - but no one will ever really recreate his music because it is primarily a feeling and quite personal.

The man can't do any wrong imo, his songs can't be stuck down to one specific genre and they all differ even when they're on an album like untrue, this level of creativity just isn't seen anymore or very rarely, very few people are able to replicate his produce style because it is so complex, massive respect to burial and everything that he has done for music, he may not be a world renowned producer but to the people that appreciate and understand his music he is an absolute genius

Hmm not really anything like burial, more like a generic trap track.

Why not take a piece of his music with drums, make a quantise template and save that for future usage. Or better make a few... you can still tweak the individual notes after that to improve the swing, bounce etc... BUT allow me to say that this is the best tutorial on the net to get the burial sound, really love it. Kudo's point blank, as always. Love the tuts and interviews, you guys are awesome <3 <3 <3

Using soundflower for recording that sample was a super helpful tip, thank you so much 🙏🏻 had no idea you can use soundflower for that 🔥🔥🔥

Dude why would you start out by placing the kicks and the snares on the grid? It completely misplaced the entire swing you were trying to accomplish. I appreciate your effort on the video though. But you can almost certainly have the kicks and snares way behind the beat. You don’t need an “anchor” so to speak. Just have to use your ears.

Though your breakdown and analysis of the central production techniques and elements is spot on, I skipped to the end result and heard a fairly non distinctive trap beat. You attempted to combine 2 seemingly contradictory things, which is what all daring producers should do. However, I just don't think you've pulled it off. It's fine of course, but it does make for a disappointing video. Who knows it might actually be a great innovative sound, but it needs more tuning.

Pretty sweet but real burial way more complex

Good effort, thank you. I reckon Burial composed by the feel of it rather than being on the grid

Sorry for my English: Back then it was a different process. we didnt use daws like Ableton but we used the computer for beats and as an 8 tracks recordedr I used Sound Forge or Cool Edit to sample and record, a tracker or fruity loops for beats. A cracked reason for basses, We used to sample tv, movies and yt videos.
I am talking as if I am an fart! I am 44 😂. I just trying to say it was a different approach: in the box, but in many different boxes

His drum kit and that crackle tho... only just listened on mobile, but the drum kit is so garage and nicely done.

he actually didn't use a DAW at all to produce Untrue. It was all made in soundforge which is just an audio file editor like audacity which is pretty crazy

How's the rhythm programming a 'producer technique'?
