PS1 Reverb Sample Pack

Lo-Fi Keys from 1974 (My FREE Sample Pack)

Sonic Textures (My Sample Pack to help support the channel)

The PS1 reverb settings are available to use for music production in all digital audio workstations by using convolution reverb plugins. Music producers need to jump on it now incase it disappears, its great for sound design and capturing the sound of technology in the 90’s. Convolution is very powerful tool that every producer should be making use of.

I’m praying this video doesn’t get put in the gaming side of YouTube, so if you’re a music producer and enjoyed this, please leave a comment to let the algorithm know it’s reaching the right people haha thanks everybody🫡

We're at an age where people are buying old digital cameras and thinking they are vintage, the low resolution blurry photos have charm in the same way analog has. So it's not surprising I guess that 90s/00s era digital reverbs and synths are coming back in style. Really interesting video, thanks for making it.

WARNING I can confirm both packs are FREE, the focus is ofcourse on Shirobons PS1 pack but my Vintage Keys sample pack that I briefly mentioned went from free to £7 on bandcamp yesterday because I ran out of free downloads and Bandcamp didn’t notify me. But it is FIXED💪 I’d be so mad if someone advertised something as free and it wasn’t so just letting you all know. Also shoutout to the couple people that bought it for £7 and didn’t even complain, I’d have been raging😂

I may never use any of these, but I really enjoyed the fact that you made a list of alternatives for the convolution plugin you use. It’s so rare in most videos like this. People tend to assume that everybody uses Ableton, which of course is not true. Thanks for providing alternatives for users of other DAWs, this is what care for your audience looks like. Definitely deserves a like, comment and subscription 🔥

Sounds cool with the convolution reverb in Renoise on some 90's jungle pads or vocal samples. Gets things sounding a little more like the PS1 and Saturn games I like.

I learned a TON from this and really appreciated how straight to the point it was!!!

Drew Drew Drew! Of course you’re the person that finally made impulse response not alien to me! Awesome video!

A closer analogy is the techniques for gaussian blur since that takes the convolution of the image and a kernel. Anyway, the basics of convolution reverb are that for any sample it is replaced by the weighted average of the following samples where the IR is used as the weights.

The way you explain your ideas and knowledge is pretty well structured. I couldn't imagine I could learn that much in 5 minutes on a concept that I have no basics of. I hope you reach the place you deserve on this platform quickly mate. Cheers

Came here for a PS1 reverb hack and was surprised to walked away with a much better comprehension of the whole concept of convolution reverb. Thank you, and subscribed!!!

Very tangentially related: In image editing, many basic effects like blur and sharpen are actually simple convolutions, applied across two spatial dimensions instead of across frequency and time.

A couple protips: apply a clip of the song itself as the impulse response to very tight percussive elements, then mess with their pitch/instrumentation. And vice versa, using very tight and/or rhythmic elements as the IR to the full track.

These techniques will make convolution click on an intuitive level and open up a lot of creative paths.

Convolution isn't really like an opacity blend... it's like a mask, allowing only the frequencies which are shared by the input AND the IR to seep through according to their relative volume and how long they occur in the IR.

Thanks very much for highlighting this, I never considered using impulse responses of those! I got started in music production way back when the Music and Music 2000 'games' became available on the PS1 so I know those reverbs well 😄

Im so glad someone brough up the unique sound of this reverb effect. I didn’t expect it to be in a music production video but anything works and I enjoy such content anyways. Good going mate :D
