독일서 관광객 강간 및 살해로 미국인 남성 무기징역 선고

Now to Germany, where an American tourist was sentenced to life in prison on Monday, for the rape and murder of a female tourist and the attempted murder of her friend.
The brutal crime took place near one of Germany's most famous tourist destinations, the Neuschwanstein Castle.
Both of the victims were also from the United States.
The judge at the court in Kempten in the south of the country noted that the crime was of "particular gravity", meaning the 31-year-old man, known only as Troy B., will not be granted automatic parole after 15 years, which is given for non-aggravated murders in Germany.
According to his lawyer, he most likely will not apply to serve his sentence in the U.S., as conditions of detention are better in Germany.

"will not be granted automatic parole after 15 years"
No automatism.
A standard life sentence with parole allows one to apply for parole after 15 years. The inmate will be reminded of this option. But this does not mean the parole will be automatically granted. The average prison time in case of a life sentence "with parole" is so 19 years. The longest was 52 years.
A granted parole means the end of the time in prison. The life sentence continues on probation.
