Air Force Officer Training School

Air Force Officer Training School is a mentally rigorous training program that takes prior enlisted and those brand new to the Air Force and prepares them to lead the greatest military force the world has ever seen. The young men and women featured in this video have come from every walk of life, every corner of the country and with every intent on succeeding and commissioning as Officers. At the end of every term, each class is asked to prepare a video highlighting their time at OTS. This is the video that Class 13-01 presented to the Commanders of the 24th Training Squadron and the OTS Staff a week prior to their graduation this past October 23, 2012. The themes of this short film are teamwork, leadership, followership and most of all determination to succeed for ones family and country, for these are the lessons that are taught at OTS. For every person that sits in a seat at OTS, there were 10 that applied. Congratulations to the members of OTS Class 13-01, and God bless America.

I went through OTS in 1967 at Lackland Medina. IIRC, there were about 1800 OTs in two classes. Vietnam was just "building up" and the AF needed pilots, so most of us were pilot-training track. There were some with prior service, but most were right out of college. Some had their draft boards after them and had to enlist quickly, so they got to go through Basic and then OTS, back-to-back--known as the "double whammy." The course was nominally 90 days, but mine was 87.
It's interesting to contrast all that with these videos. Obviously today OTS is smaller and shorter, with more prior service and more emphasis on combatives. We didn't carry weapons, and the only firearms training was one morning, firing about 50 rounds with a .38 special. From another class video, it appears the chow hall is nicer and more laid back, too.

From an old Marine's perspective, this has got to be THE most laid back military indoctrination I have ever seen. Definitely a different culture, but it seems to work.

This video really did give me a great feel. Being Enlisted, I know that I can push myself to do even greater things, and this video spoke those exact reasons for why I want to try and Commission. I don't want to just do my best, I want to always be trying to do better.

Would have been nice to hear the officers' thoughts on which aspect of training brought out their best and possibly some life lessons learned instead of saying the general stuff that most people know about this sort of thing. Good production though.
