As a prior enlisted officer that went through this process, it’s stressful. The application is monstrous and it is entirely up to you (the applicant!). My advice to enlisted that want to apply is to be the best at your job first and lead in anyway you can. They do not care necessarily about phenomenal GPA and/or test scores if you are not going to be a good leader. The Air Force picks the officer first, then whatever you may have the aptitude for based on needs of the AF. I was fortunate I had a great enlisted career where I applied once and was selected, but it’s not the case for everyone.

As what Capt Werhoe said, I knew her when I went through OTS, you are pretty sleep deprived from week 0-3 when you are slammed with a lot of studying and not to mention if you have a family like me, you have to keep up with them too over the phone. This is even more so challenging when you are in a leadership position. I enjoyed the hell out of OTS. I was grateful to be there and be surrounded with the challenges. Great video AFRS.

My experience with the Army was simply this; drafted 1970, placed in "fast track program" due my 3 years of college/university. They took me from college, which they weren't supposed to, but they did.

Ending up attending O.C.S. as a staff Sgt.

O.C.S was very tough, but worth it. No regrets. We lost close to 60% of the class before graduation. Very tough !

Interesting to put this up given the fact that officer recruiters won’t even respond and are quick to tell you they’re not taking any applicants unless you’re a pilot or doctor lol

Question: I’m currently on my first contract Active Duty in the Cyber realm. I plan on utilizing the Cyber Direct Commissioning program but I’m stuck where I want to be sure my leadership is well enough to lead our airmen for the future that’s to come but I guess the question is, is it better to experience the NCO life before commissioning to gain more leadership skills or will OTS help engage those skills that are yet to show? I love my career field and am trying to remain in this field because it’s a passion of mine! Thank you for your responses and input!

so I have a question. What do you do when your recruiter waits until 72 hours before you ship out and then lays on you? Oh yeah, you have to consolidate your student loan!! also, he had plenty of time to go over all the paperwork. They met at least three times before the ship date! You would think he would’ve brought that up weeks ago.

You can enlist as a permanent resident (Green Card), but you must be a native-born or naturalized US citizen if you want to be an officer.

If i have a bachelors in univerisity studies and an MPA masters, what would air force care more about for ots? For my MPA degree I have a 4.0 and my undergrad a 3.57.
