Hyperacusis Treatment (Can you treat hyperacusis?) | Sound Relief Tinnitus & Hearing Center

Hyperacusis is treated very similarly to misophonia, but these are patients who get better very quickly. With hyperacusis, we use sound therapy. It's so exciting when patients come in, and we can exercise the system and gradually increase what patients find comfortable. Oftentimes when we measure a patient with hyperacusis, they respond to very soft levels of sound as being painful or uncomfortable.

After two to eight weeks of therapy, those thresholds often change. We see that if we exercise the system, we can increase the dynamic range of what's comfortable for patients.

For example, Dr. Read has had patients coming in saying, “I cannot ever imagine being a part of my child's sporting event. It's too painful. It's too uncomfortable. I'm avoiding this part of my life.”

And even at six months in therapy, these are patients who are now coaching those teams. They're attending concerts. They're living their best life. Again, this is absolutely something that's very treatable.

I've been dealing w severe hyperqcusis for over 10 years. Tried sound therapy with hearing aids right away and the white noise would keep making my symptoms worse. I got a new pair th last year and I'm on a very gentle brown noise. Trauma makes sound exposure difficult

Hii... It's been 3years ..i am suffering from this (tinnitus, hyperaccusis and one ear hearing loss). Sometimes it's really painful, there is mixed hearing loss so i have to concentrate when 2 or more than people are talking that mean When i sit in groups, i rarely tolerate that conversation. But i really wish one day it will all get alright soon. Radhe Radhe🙏❤️ Just hoping for the best. 🙂

Hello, I have hyperacusis in both ears. My right ear audiogram shows normal audition, but my left ear shows a noise notch around 45 db in 3Khz and 4Khz, I don't need hearing aids in my everyday though. My left ear is much worse in terms of hyperacusis. Besides I've got reactive tinnitus and TTTS, again, much worse in my left ear, where there is hearing loss. I wonder whether there is hope, is this scenario treatable successfully?, if so, how would you treated ? perhaps using a hearing aid + sound therapy? Thanks in advanced for your time.
