I can tell you that the overlap is because people with ASD usually feel misunderstood by their parents, family, and friends. The continual bullying for being “weird” leads to shut down and eventually masking to try to fit in. This eventually leads to feeling like a fraud and worrying so much about being accepted that it’s easier to just stay home and avoid the mental exhaustion.

So many people go from ASD to Schizophrenia this I’ve learnt through my own experiences . In these cases there has to be something going on to the brain over a period of time !! This needs to be studied

Thank you for this video. As someone with schizoaffective disorder, I often times feel myself overstimulated as well as I do not understand social functions much and wanted to research if my diagnosis had related to autism in anyway, and I am very glad to have found this!

I know of a person who fits almost everything on both disorders. Communication Disorder being she often cuts in short replies (uh-hu, yeah, ok etc) before you finish saying a sentence to her but it's because she's listening to a voice conversation in her head of which you're interrupting. Her talking to the voices and visual hallucinations are getting worse.

My daughter who is 4 years old has ASD. Strange enough she flips out thinking there’s bugs on the walls of our apartment randomly when nothings there at all. Completely irrational fears. I notice it more when she is highly stressed or anxious. It’s like some kind of CPTSD symptom.

I just think alot of people out there are misdiagnosed. My son has ASD and "pseudo hallucination" constantly having voices and nightmares. and psychiatry dont think he has a psychotic illness so are not treating him for that. However the voices are constant, invasive, torturous, derogatory and destructive. He self harms and has suicidal ideation. Im not sure his diagnosis is fully correct. He is definitely autistic but nobody wants to say he may be schizophrenic. My daughter is scjozoaffective. Help please!

The brain is a very complex machine and this means there are a lot of mechanisms to understand such mental conditions. If we talk about mechanisms there could be symptoms which are quite similar to other mental problems but they could have completely different origin. For this reason it could be quite difficult to considere any comorbidity between such mental issues. Schizophrenia usually have similar symptoms to autism but in the case of autism it is known to be caused by extra-synapses which cause extra connection in local scale but low connection in general scale of the brain. I haven't read any investigation about extra-synapses and schizophrenia but the opposite!!. So in my opinion it may be very almost impossible to have autism and schizophrenia at same time

This is the spectrum you are seeking, I would say they can’t overlap, it is the left brain vs the right brain, and what side is cognitively over intuitive.

They have very few shared traits. Your spectrum is wrong. Social impairments can also be human traits(introverted vs extrovert).

You are also using misleading language to purposefully skew opinions. You use “idiosyncrasy” extremely loose, to purposely miss guide your audience.

Females are more likely to be schizophrenic,
Males are more likely to be autistic.

This is what happens when you deprive learning at youth and intoxicate stereotypes, intermixing language with gender. Not needed in education, in actual learning by the time a kid is 12 they can educate themselves.

I’m having an episode right now and it’s very positive and good feeling voice, what do I do? It’s not going away, it’s like very persistent and it is very powerful. Am I dying? Is God actually or whatever actually talking to me? Is it because no one cares and I’m so lonely that this imaginary friend personality has taken over my mind or is it just the subconscious doing it’s job but I’m unfortunately too connected to it? Will it cause me to not move again for hours at a time again? Is it do to hypnosis as a child is that possible?
