I took NCLEX last Thursday, June 20, 2024, and passed with 85 questions. All I can say is thank you Simple Nursing, buying the Elite membership was a great decision. NCLEX review series, NGN type questions and Readiness assessments helped me prepare for the test. Again, thank you so much and God bless you all.

Great video! One thing to add- schizophrenia is thought to be caused by an increase in dopamine in the brain, not decrease. That's why many antipsychotics work to block dopamine.

Thanks for the video. But please note that at 0:40 >>>> Schizophrenics have a High Level of DOPAMINE not Low, This explained by the dopamine hypothesis

I thought schizophrenia’s neurochemical etiology is an INCREASE in dopamine and not a decrease.

That’s why when levodopa (dopamine agonist) which increases the dopamine might cause psychosis
Whereas, clozapine which is a dopamine antagonist decreases psychotic symptoms.

0:37 I believe that schizophrenia is caused by an increase in dopamine. That’s why meds for schizophrenia can cause Parkinson’s symptoms which is why it is important to have anti-parkinson drugs like Benadryl or other antihistamines.

dont think like that...
see if you feel a little pain, the best thing is to ignore it. similarly you should ignore it and take the "full responsiblity" of your mind. it means - "whatever happens in my mind, i am responsible for it." and you will see soon that youre now ok! 😊

This shit is a nightmare. My mum has this. She constantly has delusions thinking people are stalking her or spying on her. She's at the hospital atm because she had another episode. Its so tiring.

This is excellent classic schizophrenia information. It may not fit this lesson to say this - but delirium may cause sick hospitalized elderly patients to say they see things. My daughter is often better able to calm these patients by not trying to orient to reality. Once she calmed a patient experiencing delirium by simply ordering some imaginary "loud children over in the corner" to quiet down so the patient could sleep. It worked.
