It's just unsettling to know just how little of a bond, the most powerful protagonist in the entire anime, has with his zanpaktou. Being seen as someone who only seeks/ends up in his inner world only when he needs help.

On a technicality, this is the real Tensa Zangetsu. However, it’s more like a raw state of Tensa Zangetsu as in the Bankai that Ichigo initially possessed was only a representation of Ichigo’s suppressed Soul reaper/hollow powers. In short, this Zangetsu is all of Ichigo’s power at the time shoehorned into the incomplete Bankai. At this point, Ichigo’s powers had no base to be fully expressed due to the lack of an Asauchi, and the emotional and mental barriers placed there by Ichigo himself. Because of this, both his Hollow/Shinigami powers and Quincy powers are shown as separate initially, instead of being fused into one from the get-go. Ichigo’s hate for his inner-hollow, and his blind faith in his Quincy manifestation is what caused this separation, and blocked him from accessing the full-potential of this incomplete and bastardised Bankai.

Ichigo coming to terms with his inner struggles and then unleashing his power to stop Aizen will always be epic. Ironic then that his powers also nearly led to him being gouged and harvested of said power forever as a contignecy by Squad Zero alongside Gotei 13. Him becoming the Spirit King would've been a bleak ending for sure, especially given everything he did and how he used his powers to protect rather than conquer, destroy or control.

I really do believe that Hollowfied Tensa Zangetsu is True Zangetsu. Ichigo's True Shikai combines to create his True Bankai Tensa Zangetsu. Kubo stated that when the scabbard broke, it revealed True Zangetsu. I also think that Ichigo keeps the one shikai now because the spirits are merged since Hollowfied Tensa Zangetsu could be True Zangetsu.

As much as I love Ichigo's self-actualization at the end of TYBW cour 1, I do kinda miss his interactions with Zangetsu (both aspects). They are some of the most important moments for Ichigo's character development, and contain so much more relevant information once you have the full story. Seeing them three of the interact after Ichigo is more at peace and balanced would've been a nice treat. Though I understand why it doesn't happen from a narrative purpose.

Ichigo says it himself. He will not call upon them as some sort of outside aid. They are his power and he weilds them by his own hands. So there's not really as much need for introspective visits.

As for Hollowfied Tensa Zangetsu. It's a very cool design, and given that he's the amalgamation of all of Ichigo's powers but unhindered by Ichigo's hesitations and lack of experience, he should be pretty freaking strong. But in the one instance we see him, he's held back by how much he cares for Ichigo. Neither Zangetsu wants to actually hurt Ichigo. They just want to help him achieve his goal. This new form is temporary and serves that one function. Considering that they expect to basically die and never return after defeating Aizen, that especially sad.

But it would've been cool if Kubo had used him to gives a preview of some more advanced abilities for Ichigo to use in the future.

I love it when you can tell a character is powerful when they pull up and their foot touches the ground only to shatter the ground where they step, i.e. when vasto lorde white is pulled out of ichigo, and when ichigo exits the dangai and rolls up on aizen.

That's crazy to hear, as at that point, Ichigo was around Ulquiorra's base form in power without using his Mask, which is freakin' powerful.

His Hollow can also call upon his sword from a distance with a simple gesture, almost like Jedi in Star Wars.

I think that the true tensa zangetsu allows ichigo to use all his powers: shinagmi, Quince, hollow in uisons. The shikai allows him to switch between the power, thus the horn of salvation, or how he appears to have the og shikai in the new breeds from hell one-shot.
