Things Only Adults Notice In Beetlejuice

Tim Burton has made some great movies but 1988’s Beetlejuice is arguably one of his best. The classic fantasy comedy introduced the world to the wonderful, obnoxious, and devious ghost Beetlejuice. And we loved it.

The titular character was played by Michael Keaton in one of his most memorable on-screen performances, and even though Keaton was hilarious, Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, Catherine O’Hara, and Winona Ryder played their parts to perfection.

The "Day O!" dinner scene is just one of many hilarious moments, and this beloved comedy is always worth another watch. But before you do, take notice. From space-jokes you missed to the dig about ... Connecticut, here are things only adults will notice in Beetlejuice.

Literally all kids got all these jokes in Beetlejuice back in the days. Kids pick up more things then adults realize.

Something I didn't notice until I was an adult was the conversation Barbara had with Jane in the beginning. Jane says a house that big should "belong to someone with a family" and then Barbara appears sad at that remark. Later she tells Adam what happened, and he says it's none of her business, and then he says "we COULD try again on this vacation."

They've been trying to have a baby but couldn't. :(

That part definitely went over my head when I was super super young.

Michael Keaton will always be one of my favorite actors. He's my favorite live action Batman.

The scene when the receptionist speaks of how she "accidentally" ended up there was a big eye opener for me.

Saw this in the theater when I was 9. Literally understood every one of these references. Kids aren’t stupid (or weren’t back in the day)

How could you leave out that all suicides become civil servants in the afterlife? The woman behind the desk that helps the Maitland’s tells them and you can see a slice on Juno’s neck and since Beetleguese worked for her he also was a suicide.

Michael Keaton is one of the greats but I feel like he doesn't get his dues sometimes....he will always be my Batman

It's even more difficult because Beetlejuice became a cartoon series. Not only that, but he and Lydia actually get along in the series.

An under-rated Michael Keaton gem is "Multiplicity" where he plays 4 characters, 3 of which are clones of the first character.

Fun fact: Michael Keaton's real name is Michael Douglas but there was already a famous actor named Michael Douglas so he had to choose a new last name to join the Screen Actors Guild and he saw a newspaper article about Diane Keaton and tada!

Also my favorite Batman!

the fact that heathers and beetlejuice came out around the same time is crazy. it shows how magnificent winona’s acting is since she seems to be around 14 in one and 17 in the other
