One of The WORST Great White Sharks Attacks in History

On December 19, 1981, the sun decided it was too shy for today as it hid behind the gray clouds looming over California. Many were bothered by the overcast weather, and not many souls ventured to the coastlines of the beach-clad state. However, enthusiasts and surfers wanted to take advantage of the storm swell caused by the cold, windy weather.

Lewis Archer Boren, a curly-haired adventure seeker, woke up to his alarm. Although most people would sleep off Saturday mornings, the ocean always welcomed him. He planned to surf South Moss Beach's waves with his friend Mark, expecting it to be just another typical day.

He quickly got up from bed, ate breakfast, and said goodbye to his parents. He strapped his five-foot-four-inch surfboard, colored yellow and black, on the roof rack of his car. The silhouette of a surfer on the board eerily looked like a seal, but Lewis didn't think much of it then.

I wish they'd shut up about us not being apart of their diet. If they're hungry we are definitely on their menu

Severel Yeas ago i was out in Catalina Island doing a little fishing near Avalon Bay and I decided to take a dip in the water. As I was swimming I noticed ALL of the SEALS were UP on the Rocks barking as if they didnt want to be in the water and were trying to tell me something... Suddenly I had a very eerie feeling... looked around and quickly swam to my boat to get out of the Water... I am pretty sure there was a shark close by... I thank the seals for the warning shot.

The people that went in to save Aurthur are absolute heroes. Imagine how much courage that took 😢

I feel blessed that I was never attacked by a shark considering how many times I surfed alone and at night at the Seal Beach Jetty by moonlight!

Having had a brief encounter in Key West with a Great White Shark, I GREATLY respect the lives of all the ocean's ecosystem.

i dont think sharks are that dumb to mistake a human for a seal. Humanity in all its glory deeply underestimates the intelligence of other species.

Some of these attacks had no witnesses. So where is he getting these details. Also, how would he know when the shark had last eaten??? I always watch Shark Week every summer. These sharks are getting closer & closer to the shorelines. I really hate how they ALWAYS say humans aren't a sharks' normal diet. But yet shark attacks are becoming more & more common. The ocean is THEIR home. So I keep my human ass out of their home. I'll sit on the sand, that's about it. While I'm sitting there, I'll pray for those in the water. I'll never understand people risking their lives in the ocean. They are called apex predators for a reason. By the time you see the shark. It has already a bitten a chunk out of your body! Swim in a damn pool, people. Sure, it may not be the same as the ocean, but neither is having 1 leg, instead of 2!! Or worse being eaten alive!!!

Measure off 16 feet in your room. Then sit on the couch parallel to it. Now think about your couch being your surf board and that 16 foot room is a fish swimming by you. That's scary!!!

I spent my childhood floating on my raft just beyond the waves. Never thought of or heard of sharks near the shore. Then I saw a Life magazine 2-page painting of a shark silhouette in a wave. That was my last venture out.

IT AMAZES ME AS TO HOW YOU CAN NARRATE WHAT LEWIS FELT OR THOUGHT, A SHARK NO ONE SEEN, OR HOW ANYTHING OCCURRED.

Why in the hell would you swim alongside the sea lions! You're literally signing your own death warrant 😮

The attack on Lewis Boren (RIP) was not an "exploratory, " or "investigative" attack. The shark bit clean through Lew and his board in a single, powerful strike, punching out a semicircular, cookie cutter-like plug, consisting of the kneeboard (2 layers of laminated fiberglass, and ~3.5" of polyurethane foam core), along with portions of Lewis's thorax, abdomen and his wetsuit. The 18" diameter semicircular bite mark spanned from Lewis's armpit to his waist, and nearly severed his spine. This was a predatory attack if ever there was one.

This literally sounds like the narrator had to write a 4000 word essay so he just explains everything 10 times in different ways lol

Sharks love the color yellow. Life jackets used to be called, “Yum, yum, yellow.” After WW2 they were mostly changed to the color orange.

We must remember when we are in the ocean we are in the sharks living room

If you get attacked by a shark along the California coast? It's going to be a great white. I have never heard or read about any other species of shark attacks in the area

A bite radius of over 18 inches means the first story Great White was Plus 23 feet with a weight of over 3500 pounds. 2 plus feet longer than Deep Blue. Imagine being attacked by an F450 pickup truck with multi rows of serrated teeth. Yeah, OH HELL NO. Thanks but nope my feet stay on dry land because there are many more critters in the oceans that can kill besides Sharks. This shark could still be alive and many feet longer now as well. Imagine again a 28 to 30 footer that weighs 10, 000 pounds. The oceans are huge and if there is a 23 footer i bet there are much larger ones out there.

Big shark 😮surfers must never surf alone. Surfers and swimmers should know sharks are everywhere in the ocean, it's there home
