Solo Trip to The Lake District without a Car | Ambleside, renting hiking boots, and Dove Cottage

Spent a peaceful weekend in the Lake District, based in Ambleside. Between visiting Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage and finding hiking boots (after a bit of a wild goose chase), it was a mix of quiet moments and little adventures. I went on a 5-mile walk, took in the changing landscapes, and even managed to spot some local wildlife along the way.

My tips if you want to do a similar trip:
- I stayed at Ambleside Fell Rooms and loved it! Ambleside is very cute and close to trails.
- If you need to rent boots, stay in Keswick and get your boots from George Fischer.
- Drive if you can, but if you can't just keep the bus scheudle in mind. I used google maps for this and you can buy your tickets on the bus.
- Use the All Trails app for navigation while hiking. They have a free 7 day trial where you can download the map and use navigation even if you don't have phone service.
- Pack a rain jacket so you can still enjoy your trip even if it's raining.

Hi Emily
I hope you enjoyed your first walk in the Lake District. I walked there for several decades and as I lived only about an hours drive from Ambleside I would try and go only when the weather was good. If you go again try and go when it's sunny. Everywhere looks so much more colourful in the sunlight.
