WHAT Happened with Tudor and Rolex

In this video I cover how Tudor has slowly become just like Rolex in certain ways. Tudor watches have been known in the past to "dare" and try things that are riskier as well as more avantgard. Though, now we are seeing them use similar plays to Rolex such as small iterations, different color dials, bracelet changes, and etc.

I own many different brands of watches, and Tudor in its own right is a fantastic watch to own, stop comparing and enjoy it for what it is, a bloody fantastic watch.

Rolex will always be Rolex. People will always be in denial 😂

Remember the good old days when you could walk into a Rolex AD and buy a watch at retail, possibly at discount, definitely discounted on the secondary market? If you could go back in time would you buy as many watches as you could? Yeah, those days are today, but with Tudor.

A Tudor is nice because it's high quality and half the price. It also doesn't have the name recognition so it's safer to wear.

I like what Rolex and Tudor are doing. They are making aesthetically pleasing pieces that are desired and making subtle changes keeping with what initially drew buyers in the first place. Other brands are trying to find those pieces. Omega has done it with the seamaster and speedmaster essentially following suit. Cartier, even less changes over time considering the tank.

Great video, very accurate analysis. In my 4.5 years in the game as a watch collector and enthusiast, I collected a lot from AMZWATCH I was thinking I was able to get a blue SD but I'm not vip enough, but I'm not giving up. Hehe. Great video.

The turning point: WIDE INVENTORY OF PARTS cost a bundle, to do small variations of existing parts cost pennies! This is the same reason why in the plumbing field toilets, wash basins & bathtub are now homogeneously white. The same could be seen in electrical appliances white and/or stainless steel. Tudor has tried other lines (which serves as a market thermometer with sales for future Rolex).

On another note: fashion clothing have a tendency to add more colors when the economy is in a slump (sounds like NOW), a few years ago the whole watch industry used to have but 2 colors in their dials selection: black & white, NOW innovative thinking color change(a few years ago Rolex sued a company which were doing private colored dials for their clients).

Tudor is like a lab mouse for Rolex as marketing & sales goes!

Look this up & you’ll see these facts.
All the best,
Johnny

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. The pink Tudor chrono move recently was actually a disgusting hustle.

Thx for the video and congrats on the launch of your new company.

Tudor’s strategy is excellent; evolution not revolution. Their sports watches are selling very well. The price to value ratio obviously still works for many watch lovers.

I wonder how many people who deride Tudor only do so because they have not been able to buy a Rolex from an AD and take it out on little brother.

In the luxury space, it's crucial to go 'narrow' and 'deep' in order to avoid problems with brand perception. Without strong flagship models, the profit ceiling is considerably lower. In that sense, it's understandable why Tudor, who were hardly selling any watches decades ago, have doubled and quadrupled down on the Black Bay once it proved to be a resounding success. Their market share has grown considerably over the last 8 or so years due to its success, and to a lesser extent the Pelagos, while others in their tier/rank/category have experienced declines in sales volume. e.g. Tag etc.

The two main problems I have with Tudor are their slab sided cases and QC problems. Heard too many horror stories about misaligned bezels, hands, indices etc. In fact, I've seen a few Tudor watches in boutiques with those very problems.

Interesting commentary, let’s see how it pans out, I’m quite certain you hit the nail and I do agree on why they are doing this - I mean the companies are basically sibling companies, many people fail to realise it. Even their greatest black Bay is a homage to the vintage Rolex submariners in a way. 😊

In a roundabout way Tudor has gone back to its original strategy of mirroring Rolex's most popular references. They have a Sub (BB58), Seadweller (Pelagos), Daytona (BB Chrono), Datejust (BB 36), and GMT Master (BB GMT). It's just now they're almost all part of the Black Bay family

I own both. Honestly I feel better and more safe wearing my Tudor GMT over my Rolex sub no date. Wear what makes you happy gents! Nobody cares as much as you think about your Rollie..I get zero compliments for both watches. Only compliment I ever received was for my Breitling Galactic Big Date. Cheers!
