Some herbs (like catnip) can possibly be made more potent by crushing. Just a thought. Obviously this is an exception to the rule and even then the oxidation can have an opposite effect and make it go bad quickly anyway. It depends on how you do it/store it.

I intend to store a set fully packed in jars, either air removed or just oxygen absorber present as a back stop. for the future.

I have some basil that I grew about 8 or 10 years ago. It's in a plastic storage bag. I can't really tell if it's still good. I have allergies and sometimes, I have trouble smelling things. Do you think the basil would be okay to use after all this time?

I had a “genius” plan to save mint leaves for fall/winter tea. Unfortunately, it didn’t occur to this ‘genius’ until it was TOO LATE that I should do this with new growth, when the leaves are fresh, clean, untouched by pests. Sigh. I will be better next year. 😬
