Forever, Whatever

She was a garden
A real blue bird
Light as the wind
She loved jesus
She had reasons
That i didnt need to get
She cried mary
She dug catcher
And she went her own way
I couldnt wait
To get straight
Jus to see what she’d say

And im pretty dumb
But i aint faded
I aint naïve
But i aint jaded
Wut do u kno abt me
What do u know about me

Im determined
And i wont back down
If it takes forever
Im gonna stick around
I know whats real
I know whats fake
If it takes forever
it’s wutever
it’s gonna take wut it takes
Wut it takes

I was a hopeful
In blue levis
And a red pair of chucks
Macrame bracelet
Fully carbeurated
smokin in a green chevy truck
i was an acolyte
with two black eyes
and a zeppelin cassette
pretty bad memory
Ain’t that friendly
but i jus can’t forget

And im pretty dumb
But i aint faded
I aint naïve
But i aint jaded
Wut do u kno abt me
What do u know about me

Im determined
And i wont back down
If it takes forever
Im gonna stick around
I know whats real
I know whats fake
If it takes forever
it’s wutever
it’s gonna take wut it takes
Wut it takes

i was a wash up
busted
head full of sad
friend-o-the-dope-man
drivin my old van
blacking out with my old man

and i’m pretty dumb
but i aint faded
I aint naiive
but i ain’t jaded
what do u know about me
wut do u kno abt me

Man all of Jesse's comment sections are always "Oh man, he's the next *insert musician here*" it's getting old, guys. He's not the next anybody, he's the first Jesse Welles and we should appreciate that.

The last 3 months or so have been the longest stretch of my life in the last 14 years where I’ve felt like happiness was something achievable, if impermanent.

I lost my dad to cancer in 2014, after being homeless with him and eventually making it into a subsidized apartment where I could properly look after him.

Ever since I’ve really just been treading water, trying to find solid ground to land on, repeatedly burning out and facing heartbreak and wasting so much goddamned time.

I found a fool’s hope somewhere in me this year, and made it hard as a rock.
I know nothing is forever—not love, not hope, not motivation, not joy. But neither are despair, grief, disillusionment, alienation.

In the people who love us, and the love within ourselves, can be found the tools to our salvation.

For me, happiness isn’t an end goal or any kind of destination; only a link in the chain.
I’m starting to believe I have it in me to keep pulling, knowing it’s gonna get harder again.
I’m learning how to let down my walls, so I can show up for the people who’ve always shown up for me. I want that more than anything.

I found your songs about a week before you made this channel, and I’ve been listening near daily ever since. Many have been downright anthems for me, and Patchwork is easily my 2024 AotY.

I don’t know you at all.
But I’m starting to know me, and that person heard those songs when they needed them. To laugh, to cry, to cope, to empathize. To know a better world is possible through communication, community, and collective action. To remember we’re not alone out here.

Thanks, Jesse.

And if anybody actually read this far, I’m amazed.
I hope you find what you’re looking for.
I hope you make it where you need to be going.
I hope you vote today.
I hope you find a reason to stick around.
Tell someone you love them.
Free Palestine.

I’ve stopped comparing Jesse to anybody. He’s absolutely only Jesse and we need him. He has his own voice, his own sound and though we all feel and see 100 different musicians coming out of him that’s because we can recognize greatness. Jesse, if you read these and I hope you do just know that as a 58 year-old musician myself you give me hope for the future of the The music with a message. Keep singing your heart out, dude We are all absolutely digging it

Wow, True Talent is so rare these days, I am thoroughly impressed with Jesse's ability to write songs, I don't think he's capable of writing a bad song. Talk about born to do something!

This song takes me back to the countless hours I spent in my dad's old truck, driving through the Canadian wilderness, listening to music and dreaming of a better life. My dad struggled with addiction, and those drives were our escape, our sanctuary. He'd point out the mountains, the lakes, and the forests, and I'd feel a sense of awe and wonder. Though our journey was marked by challenges, those moments with my dad taught me about the beauty of redemption and the power of love. This song captures the essence of those bittersweet memories, and I'm grateful to Jesse Welles for creating it.
