It didn’t take 38 years. The contract was signed in 2006, which means it took “only” 18 years. Although there were long archaeological excavations, it was still way too much.

What a shame! The reporters failed to highlight the awesome "underground museum" located in the Venizelos station. Very incomplete and poor coverage, viewers missed the best part, which, surely, must make it the best metro station worldwide!

as a Dutch to the incompetent Euronews. Interesting and incomplete coverage. That reminds me. Do you have an issue of finding 300.000 archaeolgical items and a whole ancient city underneath your city when you plan and build a metro? No? *Then be quiet*

Stop saying BS. Construction officially started in 1986 but in a short time it was paused due to problematic funding
The project initially restarted in 2006 after a numerous times and was completed some years later following a lot of delays again till today!

''Proposed during the 1910s and first seriously planned in the 1980s, construction of the main line began in 2006 and on the Kalamaria extension in 2013. The system under construction has 18 stations and 14.4 km (8.9 mi) of tunnels. After years of delays, due to archaeological discoveries and the Greek financial crisis, the first line opened on 30 November 2024.''

you don't tell the full story Euronews, they have found a lot of antiquities and it takes a lot of time to excavate all the ruins, but I agree that 38 years is a long time 😂

Congratulations on this achievement. Other countries can only dream of having classical and ellenistic period museum metro stations!
