🐾🔍 In today's episode, Dr. Andrew Jones examines a recent FDA study on dogs diagnosed with DCM (Dilated Cardiomyopathy). The study explored the effects of three different diets on beagles: a standard grain-based diet, a diet high in lentils, and a diet high in pea protein. The findings revealed significant differences, particularly with the pea protein diet. Dr. Jones will discuss these results and recommend specific supplements that could benefit dogs with DCM. I home cook all my dogs meals and snacks. I never add peas or corn. I stopped adding lentils which I did add once a week, until I noticed it caused my one dog to have inflammation. So now I don't add any lentils. I also stopped adding pasta, rice and potatoes because I don't want them on any high carbs. I didn't add much but I've decided no high carbs period. Just like with humans, a good healthy diet is a must even for our fur babies. They are family after all.

God bless you Doc, for caring so much for our furbabies! They are so much more than just pets, they are our world just as we are to them

I cook my kiddos food. 3 parts meat, 1part veges, 1 part rolled oats. I add 1 duck egg for breakfast, and organ parts in the evening. Skin issues have cleared, poops like a champ n no more eating grass n puking every other day. I also incorporated Dr. Jones' Quercetin every other day for 2 wks then 2 wks off. No more Apoquel or Bravecto....organic flea n tick sprays.

As a long time Doberman and pointer owner I have always avoided anything with peas, pea protein or legumes. All my dogs all have outlived the expected age.

My dog eats ground beef, sardines in water, eggs, liver.

Diet is everything to every living being. The Peas, we had a Sussex Spaniel when I was a kid, Biff. He ate pretty much what we ate and my dad would make a 5 gallon bucket of magic from animal trimmings we processed. No idea what was in it, looked disgusting but Biff loved it - for 19 years. Biff would not eat peas, if there were 5 peas in the food there would be 5 peas left in his bowl.

Mine get stew beef or pork loin, Instinct multivitamin topper (it’s made with secreting organs and liver), egg/shells, and a rigatoni noodle or two for fun. Carrot and apple for treats:)

I feed my dog both peas and chic peas. Not a ton, just a little. I have seen zero ill effects. I started homemade food after visiting a BnB. The owner had two 17 YO dogs that were in near perfect health. She stuck to chick/rice. I have ditched the rice, I add a small amount of oatmeal now as a binder. My girl turns her nose up at liver and the like, so that's not an option for me.
Chicken, no sodium broth, carrots, eggs (including the shell, I grind them in the Magic Bullet) peas, chic peas, oatmeal. I switch some things up a bit, and feed her Blue Buffalo for breakfast in an effort not to miss any needed supplements. She's 11 YO now, and if I hadn't told you already you would never guess. She looks/acts like a puppy.
