20,000 preschools closed. Shanghai hits the world’s lowest birth rate record.

In this video, we explore the growing trend of kindergarten closures in China, driven by a sharp decline in the birth rate and the economic pressures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Featuring interviews with parents and kindergarten directors, we uncover the challenges faced by private and public kindergartens across the country. With over 20,000 kindergartens closed between 2021 and 2023, we investigate how this shift impacts early childhood education, employment, and the broader economy. Additionally, we look at the rising phenomenon of kindergartens transforming into elderly care homes as China faces an aging population crisis. Experts warn that this dual social challenge of declining births and aging populations will have far-reaching consequences on education, employment, and the future of Chinese society.

Turning daycares into nursing homes is a sorry state for any country to be in. Things will only get worse from here.

If parents decide to have kids now, their future children might question their sanity.

Who would have thought making having children a massive financial burden would result in a drop in childbirths.

Goes to show you can't just milk the society and you have to give something back to keep them interested in living! Lying flat isn't just antisocial and anti government but also very sad on a personal as well as social perspective.

Transforming into nursing homes makes sense given the demographic pyramid is inverted... but what a sorry state of affairs.

I look at married couples and I am very happy that I am Single by Choice.
It's to much work to live with a man, that's time and energy I need for myself.
Men want to live like they are 5 years old and live with tveir mothers.
Even when both work fulltime, the vast majority of household work is done by the woman.
So the only thing a woman gets from a relationship is more work.
That doesn't Sound good.

I think this is a great trend, because now Chinese babies and children will be taken care of and valued in terms of quality instead of quantity like in the past and having to resort to adoption and such……fewer people means more surplus resources in the balance.

It may seem like a gradual decline of births in China, but by 2028 when the “Let it Rot” generation’s children would be supposedly at five years old, China will find kindergarten enrollment to be drastically low and the steep decline will be shocking. Their demographic chart will show year after year from 2028 will be falling off the cliff. China’s population numbers of 2050 - 2100 will be coming much sooner than expected. The bad news is, unless China finds a way to motivate their young people to marry and make their economy much better, this drastic drop in population is going to continue one decade after another.
