I think XJP does not have that much foresight to prepare China for war time economy. He was just blindly following Mao’s model. I strongly believe he doesn’t know what to do about the economy anymore cos doing something may mean compromising his power, admitting he’s wrong or appear weak. He should know that his allies want economic growth. It’s like he rather dies than to admit something is not right. I think we all always put politicians on a pedestal wherein fact they are just humans. They really are. He probably fantasised of having the reverence from the people like Mao had. If you ask me I don’t believe he’s a very smart man. But he’s stubborn n cold hearted for sure. Average IQ but extremely high in mean spirited tenacity

Yes I agree a lot of people have died during Covid and a lot of people have left the country especially women to make sure their baby is born in the USA. Also I cannot watch some of the things happening in China either because they are too distressing for me.

Because centralisation/ nationalisation/ propoganda are cornerstones of communism it isn't easy to differentiate 'normal' from 'wartime' economic policy. It's somewhat different in western democracies, where a marked shift toward centralisation and nationalistic propoganda is a distinct marker of wartime preparation.

Xi realised 5 years ago that the property market which was over 30 pct of gdp was about to burst and cause a chaotic meltdown. His red lines with developer's has caused the property market to collapse but hasnt been a complete meltdown.secondly most policys are to make China less dependant on imports but dominate exports markets in certain fields like solar, evs etc which has kept the economy chugging along.
