First of all, this was an excellent video for 5-gallon tanks.
Just going to share some thoughts. I have owned four Marineland Portrait 5-Gallon tanks, and after moving across country, still own one. The filter of this tank is adjustable from around 35 GPH to 85 GPH. If a person has fish experience, (and when I started the main book was "Exotic Aquarium Fishes, " by William Innes, published from 1938-1969, 19 Editions), they can put more in a tank, yet it is work. I have found that there is room for a heater in the back area. I currently have sand as the substrate, this lighting has always worked well for Java Ferns for me, white rocks on the bottom. The video is totally correct on recommendations, a Betta would work well, yet lower the filter to 35 GPH. My Portrait has a fish or two too many, I have 3 Cardinal Tetras, 2 Neon Tetras, 2 Albino Cories. I say too many, since the Neons and Cardinals after a year are frankly big. I do have the filter set at 85 GPH. The filters media are not too expensive from the right source, and with sand one does not need to clean the aquarium as often as gravel.
I also have, a Fluval Flex 9 and a Fluval Flex 15, and here is my criticism about getting the Marineland Portrait. There are things that go wrong in these tanks, and Marineland offer NO replacement parts, while Fluval does! I had Eclipse tanks and hoods for 12 years, and can still get parts for them from Marineland, yet the current tanks they sell NO parts! You need to get a new Portrait if the filter goes out, and there are other problems that I have had to adjust to fix.
If you want a 5 Gallon, spend the bucks and get the Fluval Spec V, but for only $40 more get the Flex 15, for goodness sakes!
