While the #austriangp was full of excitement and saw #charlesleclerc secure a surprise win to close the gap at the top of the standings, it was the FIA that again took the headlines with some surprising decisions and incredibly strict penalties. Some were fair, some were questionable, and some were just completely wrong. The FIA are under a lot of scrutiny at the moment and this weekend has only made things worse. Will Formula One look to force a break from the FIA soon, or can the governing body sort itself out before it is too late? We are going to look at the huge inconsistencies over the weekend and how the F1 teams have responded. Let’s get started.

I believe that they should have ex drivers as race directors. At least those still driving in races would have someone who has an idea of what happens during the races. People like Montoya and Villenueve, I think those two ex drivers have an idea. And the same with Stewards which other sport would have people that have never really driven a one seater race car never mind an F1 car. Give us more ex drivers in FIA racing control.

I think it's time for Ross Brawn and some of the other old guard to step in and replace the FIA. We all knew that replacing Charlie Whiting was going to be hard but this is insane. The drivers need to trust that race director and the stewards will apply the rules in a consistent manner so they know what to do on the track. I've been following F1 for 20 years and I've never seen it this bad. It's too bad since this season was looking really competitive.

They shouldn't make rules that they can't referee efficiently.

The decisions this weekend were a joke, consistency has gone out of the window.

I can’t understand why F1 hasn’t split years ago

Simple solution, stop making tracks with huge run-off areas that drivers will and can use ... bring back sand traps or barriers

The “joke” that is the FIA is an embarrassment for the sport. Arguably, the most technical sport on the planet is being overseen by short sighted, and I mean that in a literal sense, observers! Surely in this day and age their are sensors which are capable of recording the position of a car in relationship to a circuit of tarmac?

The biggest joke was the deliverance of a world championship to a driver who scored points while the FIA were changing the rules mid race! That must be the worst travesty of justice in sport of all time.

it's so dumb when people say it's "hard racing" for pushing someone off track. its just not lol its trash and everyone should get penalized for it. leave the room and if you're faster you'll be ahead.. so many times they are NOT faster and bc they push them off they maintain the lead... penalty

My 2018 Toyota Tacoma can tell me when I've crossed from one lane to another with a beep and that's with intermittent Lane markings.
Why can't F1 cars have a similar device that tells them when one side of the car is over the white line and signal the stewards when both wheels, left and/or right go over the white line. That way race control, pit lane staff and the driver all know what's going on.

FIA is a joke. Has anyone in that organization ever driven a racing car. I'm willing to bet they all have chauffeurs to drive them around. Strikes me that more than 75%, from the top down, should at least know some thing of racing driving.

There should be three race directors with two of them on duty at each race. That way you get better consistency in direction given to drivers and teams.

Someone else mentioned about putting sensors on the cars to let the drives and stewards know when you exceed track limits. I think this would help both parties a lot!

Regardless of how Vettel might be as a driver (I like him myself), when he has issues with how things are being run I tend to give him a listen- he has been a student of F1 history since he entered the sport.

Problem is, you never split the work load of the Race Director, you simply gave them a day off. Day of race, its still the same work load as before since its only 1 person making all the decisions. Good job FiA for again, making yourself look incompetent, and incapable of doing the job. This kind of mis management is what makes small businesses fail. Your riding of the fame of F1, only the drivers are keeping it alive, where as yall are destroying the sport.

Consistency is all we ask nothing more and nothing less.
A break away from the fia is not so far away in my opinion....

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if Masi was just making mistakes thanks to Horner and Wolff shouting at him constantly.

FIA need to get their house in order or the F1 teams can get their own setup - Ben is obviously in a job way over his pay grade - he has never raced in F1 and cannot even contemplate the gravity of his job.

The stewards had to check over 50 maybe 60 track limits infringements while also watching the rest of the race- I think the teams need to consider the time taken to analysis and get 100% correct, the FIA should install sensors and sensors on track so no human interference, if sensor goes off for track limits no one can complain. Should be simple to sort out.

Five times exceeding track limits before you get a penalty? It seems that if you were on two times by the last lap and racing was close then you could exceed the limits a couple of times in that last lap and get away with it.
