Why Are There Ethics? | TMBH Ephesians #5

Aron Utecht and I are talking about Ephesians 5. It's a rare part of the Bible that talks mostly about what to do and who to be. It seems entirely practical on the surface, but what's the principle and the point behind it?

Thanks for these videos Matt. I don't know if you get much encouragement, but I have learned so much from you. Please never stop making them.

I agree that we as Christians are not defined by ethical behaviour, neither should God be defined by Christians or non by the ethical or unethical behaviour of Christians.

When we don't see this kind of behavior in the church (particularly if we see a lack of love toward others), what should our conclusion be? Also, how do we convince the watching world that they are not acting the way they ought without running afoul of the "no true Scotsman" fallacy?

"sexual immortality" ... I'll probably have to laugh everytime I read that too ...

Any thoughts on abusive Catholic priests? Their explanations are not good enough and their punishments don't fit the crime.

Yup, if we are driven by love we will want to walk worthily and bring honour to our Lord. (What about the pink elephant in the room that gets danced around - fornication and homosexuality in the congregation? Too unpopular to deal with?)
