What is Ethics?

Показать описание
Ethics asks how we should live, what choices we should make and what makes our lives worth living.

It helps us define the conditions of a good choice and then figure out which of all the options available to us is the best one.

Ethics is the process of questioning, discovering and defending our values, principles and purpose. It’s about finding out who we are and staying true to that in the face of temptations, challenges and uncertainty. It’s not always fun and it’s hardly ever easy, but if we commit to it, we set ourselves up to make decisions we can stand by, building a life that’s truly our own and a future we want to be a part of.

ABOUT THE ETHICS CENTRE

The Ethics Centre is an independent not-for-profit that advocates for a more ethical society.

A team of innovators, thought leaders and conveners of people and ideas, we deliver a range of services including innovative programs, consulting, leadership and an ethics helpline designed to bring ethics to the centre of everyday life.

Across our work, we aim to diagnose, prevent and cure the sources of ethical failure, to increase ethical literacy through education and information, and develop tools to empower good decision making.

The Centre’s programs are recognised for stimulating public awareness and understanding, creating a space for open, honest and often difficult conversations.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of The Ethics Centre, and we’re committed to educating, engaging and informing for a better world for the 30 years to come.

- quality decision, good over bad ones,
- ethics: branch of philo that asks the practical “What should we do?”
Which leads to the study of value, principles, beliefs, norms. These SHAPE our choices

Answering the necessary questions to get clear on WHAT MATTERS: Our values and principles

Values - things we hold to be good and care about most deeply (ex. Justice Knowledge Family Equality)

In some cases, you may value two attributes from opposing sides, which pull you in different directions

Why not go back to Lee and explain what the other friend had said and encourage Lee to reach out or talk about the possibility of you speaking on lees behalf of the topic arises again. This dilemma occurs mainly because you feel you can’t go back and explain the situation to Lee? In saying that, the comment above saying about “mentioning how lee might be going through something and to ease off” is a good way of preserving both also.

Mention to your mutual friend that maybe Lee is going through something and needs some space at the moment. Trust remains, friend backs off, problem solved. We all do at times.

Can ethics stand alone? Like morals an principles. Ethics is flawed because it denies it's foundation. Who's to say what's right an wrong. An if we adhere to the highest standard, that's unethical your God has no place in my ethics

You are watching it for school, and your kid yells beside: "This is Matt from Short and Curly?!"

It could be that it is an act sublimation. Lee has made a conscious decision to share the problem of his depression with another person, which is a sign of a cry for help, and if explaining the basics of the issue to friends and alerting them to be sensitive with him helps, then it is potentially for the ultimate good of Lee. Andreas Lubitz, the Pilot of the German Wings plane, which he deliberately crashed into a mountain, had a mental health problem that his doctor kept confidential and did not inform the airline: result, 144 dead passengers and crew.
If they could speak from the grave I wonder what their opinion on the subject of confidentiality would be.

I am becoming like Chidi. I am absolutely paralyzed by decision making, and it is destroying my life!

I can help Lee without breaking his trust. Like telling our other friends to be patient, to be compassionate and delve deeper why he did those actions. And if they won't listen, then maybe Lee is not in the correct inner circle because true friends will accept who you are and will try to understand you.

p.s. if you are experiencing depression, anxiety, YOU ARE WORTH IT, YOU ARE VALUABLE EVEN MORE THAN THOSE PRECIOUS GEMS. You have a place in this world and it will never be the same without you. What you feel is valid and you, we, deserve all the good things in life.

Great video! I like the ending and how it ties into the rest of the information. Great job! We all need to take a little more time to consider the impact we can make-

the first example is a bit questionable since we could hint at him being a bit depressed and yet not say it or do something that would still include without actually having to breach his trust cant you guys have simpler examples kkk

For me ethics or moral philosophy is a branch of philosophy that "involves systematizing, defending and recommending concepts of right and wrong behavior".

Here's a recap of what the video said. Nobody has a clue what ethics is. Nobody knows what is right or wrong, it's just up to you to decide what is right and wrong for you.
Just like Socrates, the only thing I know is that I know nothing, because all of these guidelines are different from people to people, these "guidelines" maybe identical, maybe overlapping, but they're independent from one another.
