Hey! So as a daily user of the Dutch transport I’ve got some tips for you. It depends totally on you train carrrier and the distance. The “blue one” is for the train carrier Arriva. If your taking an Arriva train you should check in with them. And for Arriva they charge their maximum fee at first. And when you check out it will calculate your fee and refund you. Same as for the busses: Depends on the carrier. With NS trains “the yellow one” they charge €20 euros because that is their maximum fee charge and again if you check out you will be refunded. If they catch you with no eligible travel ticket you will be fined, around € 150. This is the same if you’re taking an NS train and checked in with Arriva. Hope this helps!
