Buchla 250e as cv recorder, sample/hold style

Demo of technique using the 250e to record cv being fed in externally by using 'Fix', an idea @boobtube356 (aka dougcl) suggested, which works quite well! Fix, it turns out, is a little different than the other buttons on the 250e in that it can be hit on the fly without the stage needing to be in edit mode, so you can just hold it down as it goes through the cycle to fix or unfix a stage. Once a stage is flipped into a fixed state, it needs to be unfixed if you want to try fixing another voltage, it won't just keep changing as it goes around and around. For some reason doing the vid it wasn't holding onto the 'time' when I tried that, but I swear it was last night! will look into that. anyway, pretty fun, lots of possibilities, like I still haven't played with this using strobe or continuous, and that is bound to be cool too, and doug was talking about using it in conjunction with another 250e or 251e, which kind of make my mind reel. need to try using it with numerology feeding in the cv too.

And prior to that, about the external voltages in general "Voltages and times may be derived from external control voltage inputs on a stage by stage basis. Controls for this trick reside in the lower left section. While in the edit mode, select the desired stage number and switch on the time and/or voltage LED's with the associated switches. Be sure to select the desired voltage (1 or 2). The stage pots now change function, choosing which of four inputs to select (follow the scheme of stage" .

the one line in the manual about fix says "A global control ("fix") disables external inputs, storing current values as if they were knob settings."
Basically when fix is in it samples and then holds the voltage on the first pass it is enabled.

@7thDanSound Dan the beast is no longer in my life - been a while but I'm pretty sure that when you leave the 'fixed' state on any given step that buffer is cleared for that step, so the first pass through it will grab ala s & h and then spit the grabbed voltage out on each pass until its state is changed again.

@brandonrsmith23 I hope you didn't sell all your Buchla, just the 250e!? At any rate, this one thing that is so typical of Buchla I've found, stuff that just has that cool extra twist to it. I like it!

The 250e is, like many other Buchla modules, a really deep beast.

So from what I understand, all stages can select an external voltage (1 of 4) and out put it instead of it's own knob setting. One of the four external voltages is called "fixed" and it can be sampled while the sequence runs so that the next time the sequence runs, the sampled voltages are output. Can you then change back to the knob (or another external input) and back again to what was sampled? Are the sampled voltages saved?

wow this is amazing! would the same be possible with 251e? I love it!
