Scientists and community organisations are lobbying the Western Australian government to re-think its policy of planned burning in parts of the state.

200,000 hectares of native forests between Perth and Albany are burnt each year to mitigate bushfires. But the policy is under scrutiny, as there's concerns the frequent fires are threatening a biodiversity hotspot.

But the WA government is standing firm, and has increased funding for the burns. Landline's Mark Bennett trekked into one of the remote regions to take a look.
