Git in Visual Studio Code

Working with Git in a separate terminal of GUI can interrupt your workflow. With Visual Studio Code, you can stay in the same editor you write your code in and work with Git as well. VS Code has the ability to track file changes, make commits, push to central repositories, and more!

Thanks James. Converting from Vi and Sublime to VS Code and NEEDED to upgrade to an IDE. Well done and very clear. You should get a job with ACLOUD guru!

Do we have to install any extension vscode to connect directly with git ?

3 important things for me are not implemented:
1. graph view
2. side by side merge conflict resolution
3. I hate using the console, be it cmd or command palette - I want some UI.

Also I noticed that It is really bad idea to have multiple git clients running while vscode one is also running. Had bad experience with Sourcetree and GitKraken, when they were working at the same time as VS code git. In the end I just disabled the VS Code one. Cause GitKraken is giving all I need. I look forward future plugins for git in VS code that will tackle those features. I might switch to it eventually. Have in mind I was tortoisegit user mainly.

Other than that - great video :)

Thanks for clear and bright demo. Nevertheless, found it slightly short - (possibly need updating to VS Code version 1.46.1 that has a new UI for the version control). cheers!

Really concise, well paced. Was looking fwd to when you got to explain conflict resolution, but you didn't. Still, never mind, it was still well worth watching. Thanks.

Great video, but how the heck do you view, access, and restore previous commits in the VSC source control GUI?

Hi James, how did you set up the terminal to have the colors and master/branch?
Thanks

What your screen shows and what mine shows are different from the start which happened 1:40 into the video. The version control icon on my screen brings up a side bar that says, "No source control providers registered."
