Just to add something, because it may come up also. The use of the term "Palaistinê" by Herodotus is more about the Greek perception of the region than about its self-identification or political reality. Ancient Greeks often named people and places based on their encounters and interpretations, which might not align with local understandings.
"Palaistinê" referred to a region inhabited by people known as the Philistines (a term used in biblical texts), without implying a cohesive political entity. Herodotus' mention is thus significant for understanding Greek views of the area, not necessarily the existence of a state or nation called "Palestine."
In summary, he was referring to Philistines, not Palestinians :)
Also - "Mutasarrifate" originates from the Ottoman Turkish term "mutasarrıflik, " which refers to a territorial administrative unit. The pronunciation can vary based on linguistic and regional differences. I used the pronunciation in my own language rather than English; sorry for that!

Thank you so much! Your teachings are spot on and I enjoy and appreciate it. Wish everyone in the world would listen to the accuracy of your lessons. Unfortunately most chose to live in a state of denial!

I started following the Watchman on YouTube last year, to gain a greater understanding of the Jewish people. However, I also spotted your channel, and noticed that as you progressed, your biblical information was more in depth and precise. Hence, today’s post was so enlightening and informative.

Probably the clearest, easy-to-understand presentation of this long and complex history. Thanks, especially for the several photos of the "desolate land" under the Ottomans, until WWI was finished! Plant more trees! 😊 I note 1897-1947 is the length of a Jubilee!

THE TRUTH ABOUT PALESTINE
_Who are the Palestinians and where did they come from?_

Today, there is a conflict between the State of Israel and a people calling themselves _the_ Palestinians. The Palestinians assert that they are unfairly _invaded_ by the Jewish people and that the Palestinians are the true historical inhabitants of The Land (of Israel), formerly called Palestine, and that even Jesus was a Palestinian. However, the genetically diverse Palestinians are actually from _other_ places (Islamic places), the territories surrounding Israel. They are a genetic mix of Arab, Egyptian and Syrian, for the most part. They took the name Palestinian in the mid-1960's as a (KGB sponsored*) propagandist move to distract other nations from that fact and the fact that they already have "a homeland" in the surrounding countries (in particular the mandated Trans-Jordan) as divided out by the League of Nations post conquest of the Ottomans - a land area some 632 times larger than the diminutive sliver left to Israel as a homeland for the Jewish people. The Palestinians have tried to characterize themselves as the small and oppressed party, the underdog, while making Jewish Israel the colonial aggressor.

The opposite is true.

In an attempt to combat the Palestinian false narrative, well-meaning Christians contend that the name Palestine didn't exist prior to 135AD. They say the Roman emperor Hadrian invented the name out of spite for the Jews who he had battled with, evicted from their capital city Jerusalem, and then intended to erase their culture and presence by renaming their homeland after their historical foes, the Philistines.

The assumption is that Philistine and Palestine are one and the same. That Palestine is an etymological derivative of Philistine.

The name Philistine is of Hebrew origin.

The Hebrew word Pehlista (פְּלִשְׁתִּים, Gen 21:32, פְּלִשְׁתִּ֗י, I Sam 17:8), derived from the root Plisha (פְּלִישָׁה), from which we get the English Philistine, means _Invaders._ The Philistines invaded the southern coastal region of Israel around 1200BC. Archeological finds, particularly pottery vessels and genetic testing of their burial remains, show the Philistines were European - Aegean - Greeks, also known as the Sea Peoples.

There is no direct etymological connection between the Hebrew word Philista and the name Palestine.

However, there is a Greek connection.

The Land of Israel was known by it's patriarch, Jacob, whose name was changed by God when Jacob _wrestled_ with Him (Gen 32:24). The name Israel means _He who wrestles with God._

The etymological connection to Palestine is with the Greek word _Paleuo, _ (Παλεύω) which means WRESTLE. This discussion was first made by the German scholar Martin Noth (1902 - 1968), though never broadly publicized.

Historical usage in Greco-Roman secular writings of the name Palestine for the Land of the Wrestler goes back to Herodotus (484 - 485 BC), Aristotle (384 - 322 BC), and even the Jewish historian, Josephus (37 - 100 AD).

The Land they were referring to was much larger than the area we know as Israel today and the people they wrote about who lived there were the Jewish people.

And it should also be noted that the people claiming to be the entitled Palestinians today cannot pronounce the letter 'P' because it does not exist in their language. They've had to change the Greek place names in Israel to accommodate their cultural difference. For example, they call the city of Neopolis: Nablus, and the caves of Paneros: Banyas. They can't even say, "Palestinian, " so they say Balestine or Felestine - neither of which have any etymological source in their Arabic language.

The Palestinians are the Jews.

The disputed territory of Israel is the historical Land of the Jews.

The Jews have no where else to go.

The _so-called_ Palestinians have plenty of places to go where they have actual cultural, historical and archeological connections.

If they really wanted peace...

Shalom (the most spoken word in Israel: it means Peace. They use it for 'Hello' and 'Goodbye.')
