I'm sick of seeing people commenting on how disgusting this movie is. That's the whole point! This movie focuses on the reality of family issues such as these and yes it is going to be very uncomfortable, but that's the point.

The movie is about his uncle getting back at Ryders Mom. When Ryder mom Cindy and his uncle Keith was little, Cindy would initiate sexually towards Keith. Which led to other things which got them caught by the grand ma during the act as Keith says at the end it was always his mama idea but grand ma blamed me. So since the beginning he told Molly to take Ryder to the barn to play chicken. And he purposely caused all that drama to blame Ryder so that Cindy would understand how he felt when he had to take the blame when they was little. That's why at the end he made her take Ryder to play chicken again and said it at the table in front of Cindy face asking Molly if he played chicken with ryder. This let's Cindy know that molly initiated it and that Keith knew the whole time what was happening but just wanted to blame Ryder just like how when they was little Cindy would initiate Keith to do sexual things but he end up having to take the blame by the grand ma. This was his get back. Only thing unclear is that maybe Uncle Keith is Ryder real Dad as Molly asked Ryder " is it true that uncle don is not your real Dad" and the fact that Ryder looks nothing like his Dad Don.

This movie is so disturbing to watch especially the river scene at the end

I actually liked it a lot. I mean yeah it gave me a really bitter taste because of the end but it's not a bad movie, they're really great actors and it has a very interesting storyline, so yes the end it's not pretty clear (i could understand it though) and it pissed you off how nobody said anything about the abuse thing, even Ryder and how his mother couldn't trust in him too. I felt really sorry for Ryder and really uncomfortable many times too. When he's talking with his uncle and this one it's showing him how to use the gun felt SO uncomfortable.
I wasn't expecting that ending and stuff but I don't wanna judge the whole movie just because of how it ended, it was great and it worth my time.

This movie was a bit disturbing in parts. I mean, they really leaned a bit too close to child porn, minus the nudity.

If you like the type of movies that don't spoon feed you everything and insult your intelligence, then it might be worth watching. If this wasn't too intellectually challenging to watch then graduate to films such as Primer (2004) or Syriana (2005). Otherwise stick to the Hollywood blockbusters.

(SPOILERS) One thing I'm still not entirely clear on is why it keeps being brought up that 'such-and-such isn't my real family'. Like in the beginning - Molly asks Ryder if it's true that Don (I think that's his name) isn't actually his father, and Ryder is obviously confused about it; then in the river Molly says that this 'isn't her real family'.

Were they meant to be hints at Keith's state of mind and the abuse? Like was Molly's father telling her that Don wasn't Ryder's dad? And did she, on some level, know that what was going on was wrong and want to escape it? Sorry if this is unclear. Rereading it, it seems kind of jumbled but I don't know how I can word it better

I minor should not have been given the script that Molly had been given. Very irresponsible. The movie made me angry because at some point there should have been some confrontation. I have no problem with it being mysterious for the most part but I think at the very end somethings should be crystal clear. If I were Ryder I would have questioned what really happened to Molly when they went in the barn. He never questioned it. The father invited him over for an apology lunch and he just went... Doesn't make sense. All in all I thought it was a good movie but lacked the appropriate ending.

I just watched this movie, and the little girl who plays Molly is going to have a plethora of perverts obsessed with her.
