That fact that your body is present when your life is ended show that your soul is separate from your body and is no longer in your body .

A soul is something that one IS and not something that one HAS . In Genesis we learn this as it shows spirit breathed into a body created a soul or as scripture says "and man BECAME a living soul" so spirit + body = living soul . I would imagine your consciousness, will, emotion and everything connected to the spirit are integrated with the body created the living soul experience .

I believe this is why it says not to fear man who can only destroy the body but rather fear God who can destroy both the body AND the soul in hell since God has power over your entire being and can send it to hell, a person can kill you, but after that, they have no power over your spirit, where it will go, which is why we should not fear death regardless how it comes .

I don't know if that was the best explanation but I tried and I do think of this from time to time

In Genesis when Adam was created God breathed into him and he became a living soul. It returns to God until the resurrection.

A book came out fairly recently that goes into this in detail. Minding The Brain, edited by Angus Menuge and two others, with chapters written by various authors. There are good insights in the book (including the last two points made in the video) but it's a tough read.

Forget humans, lots of them without souls...Sold to the devil, sold to being rich etc. But animals..they do have souls. Different caracters, different moods. Just study nature if you can't grasp humans.

I don't remember where I read this but they weighed a person who was dying and there was a small weight difference between when alive and dead.

But ask the question ‘what is a soul’ ? Breath, ‘nephesh’ all breathing creatures are souls. The soul is not immortal.
