Only a new life in Britain will do for desperate Calais migrants

The Times has learnt that people smugglers are set to face life sentences under Priti Patel’s plans to crack down on Channel crossings...

The home secretary's expected to announce the move - due to take effect next year - increasing the average length of sentences for gangsters convicted of assisting illegal immigration.

How can they be desperate if they’ve come from France?

No we don't need to be doing our bit. The Govs first priority is to the people of the nation. None of these were in any danger in France. It's called cherry picking, to borrow a phrase.

These people are mostly economic migrants, they are not poor and can afford to pay thousands of pounds for dingies. They are coming to take advantage of our system.
