We rode this train from Lourdes to Paris last June 5. Departed Lourdes at 9:21AM and arrived at Montparnasse Paris at 2:14PM. Total distance covered was 890km. It was really fast, very comfortable and very quiet.

The "Sectionnement automatique" is a dead section. That's an area of catenary with no voltage flowing through it. It's required at regular intervals due to substations introducing current, switching stations, or changes in voltage. The train operator has to reduce the throttle to IDLE and literally coast through these sections so as not to damage the train. Now you know!

Those rails are near perfect, and I love the long high speed switches too! Makes me want to build another layout!

Excellent idea with the camera of the cab signalling monitor and the speedometer! It gives viewers an idea of how the driver controlls the train and makes you appreciate how far in advance you have to think and act at high speeds. I wish more cab ride videos had that feature.

Meanwhile in England we have 40 year old diesels which vibrate your fillings loose and the ticket prices require you to remortgage your house.

on board a plane, you don't feel the speed ... but on the TGV you live the speed ... and the landscape.

Terrific video! TGV at its finest, in full flight, nudging 200mph for long stretches ... probably one of the best feelings in the world travelling at that speed on the ground! Who cares about the glare on the windscreen? Duh! Great stuff!

I loved the TGV. So fast. It was also like gliding on air, didn’t realise how fast you were going until you looked out the window.

I've never been to France. Made for an enjoyable journey.

Put the speed of the video at x2 and you'll see how it looks like when you drive a train at 600km/h !

300 kph is fast. Cool. Where I live, we have Amtrak. We get to go 3.00 kph, and that's on a good day. :)

This may sound silly, but I am so proud of engineering and

I am confused as to the routes shown. The first bit (to 1h26m) seems to be the high speed line (LGV) from Avignon (or Aix en Provence?) to the outskirts of Marseille, then the conventional line towards Toulon and Cannes, latter rather slow (100-120kms/h). Thereafter I can't place, seems to be bits of LGV with conventional line in between. Note that the LGV is electrified at 25kV AC, the conventional lines at 1500V DC, so trains are dual voltage and they carry separate pantographs for each system, which is why you see the instruction "baissez pantos" (lower pantographs) as the trains leaves the LGV.
