I wouldn't be surprised if it persists as long as minecraft itself does. Even if some older members lose interest, new members can be brought in. Hermitcraft 8's logo should be a infinity symbol rotated to look like an 8, as its pretty obvious that it will persist for many years to come.

People say Hermitcraft is aimed slightly towards a younger audience, I see it more as Rated E for everyone. I definitely prefer it over dream smp. It’s too loud for my taste.

I personally am a bigger fan of Hermitcraft, for two main reasons, one: the absolute skill and effort that goes into everyone’s bases and mini games gives me inspiration and is awesome! And two: the Dream smp fandom creeps me out

They’re so different from one another that they shouldn’t be compared. It’s obvious hermitcraft fans are gonna like the style of let’s play they do instead of heavily story driven shit. They’re each for a very different audience.

I watched Hermitcraft since season 3. Unfortunately it has become a bit more oriented towards a younger audience, and it's now a bit heavy on the timelapses and events, but still worth watching every now and then. And Ethoslab has finally found his Hermitcraft niche in season 7, almost feels like the old days of Mindcrack. Amazing stuff.

if you're looking for memes dream smp is your choice. if you're looking for productive minecraft let's play hermitcraft is your choice.

HermitCraft is a better SMP, because DreamSMP is barely even an SMP, instead, it's an immersive story-telling platform for role-playing content creators. Survival mode, the crux of an SMP, has not been the focus of the DSMP for a long time coming and it's working out for the creators and their audiences. It's not orthodox survival gameplay giving Ranboo enderman _powers_, neither is appearing in creative to break end portal blocks. It might not be survival, but these events sure are entertaining.
So if we were to debate which one's a _better SMP_, it'd be HermitCraft, because it's focus has and always will be on the survival aspect of gameplay which makes an SMP.
But if we were to question which one's more entertaining, then I'd say both are equally meritable and to each their own. I, for one, am a fan of both and will continue to be one.
